Valentine's Weekend ((RF))

On the weekend of Valentine's Day (the 13th and 14th), Hogsmeade was hosting a Valentine's festival. Today (Saturday 13th) was the day of the parade: cupids swarmed the streets spreading cheer and spirit, and decorative floats were led by the local businesses. The streets were full of life and rammed full of witches and wizards from across the country, as well as the students of Hogwarts as this was their designated weekend visit. There were various stalls selling Valentines and Springtime merchandise: Honeydukes had a large one selling their chocolates, and The Three Broomsticks were ladelling out their special love-filled brews.

There were carnival rides, games and prizes to be won for 'you and your sweetheart'. As the crowds are thick and the demand is high, there's a lot that could go unnoticed. Still, you're just here to enjoy yourself - right?

"I think everyone feels lonely on Valentine's Day to some degree," he said sympathetically. "Are you glad to be home at least?"

He hugged her with his elbow. It was the best he could do as he snacked on some sweets.

"My bloke's somewhere out in that crowd, I gotta find him!"

It was their first Valentine's together, so James was hoping they'd be able to find plenty of private time later.

"Your, er, guy works at Hogarts, don't he? He might, I dunno, be grading papers."

"Yeah, I'm happy to be back here. Ilvermorny was so easy to get lost in..."

One of her fingers stroked the teddy's abdomen lightly. "Are you lonely too?"

She thought every girl would be clawing for him right now.

Dom smiled meekly at James, "Yeah you're probably right. Nothing to worry about."

Adelaide was so lost. She was trying to find the candy kiosk and was just being sent every which way. She saw two people talking, and they seemed nice enough. She thought she briefly remembered them visiting Illvermony last month. So she walked over to them, "Excuse me. I'm a bit lost. I'm trying to find the candy cart."

"I just... can't understand you."

He sighed, pushing up his glasses.

"It's not as though your children will suffer much. A lot of Dads are disappointing. Look at your own, for example..."

Alayna was about to say something when his following words hit her like a slap to the face, "Lien Chang, tread very very carefully. You don't get to talk about my father. You don't know what Atticus and I went through. And if you ever say that Ptolemy is even capable of such horrors again, you will get the Alayna from a few months ago back. Is that what you want?" She could go back to being a bitch if she needed to.

He managed to look away from her.

"Argh. Stop messin' around with my head. I ain't buyin' nothin' for ya..." He strained with all his might to hold back but he blurted: "But I'll win ya the top prize on the High Striker."

Walking around taking a sip of his drink, he walked into Alayna and Lien spilling bits of the drink on them.

"Sorry bro and bro's sister."

"I'm not saying that... necessarily," he said calmly, apparently unaffected by her threat. "I mean, you could look at James's Dad too. What I'm trying to say is... it won't be the bloody end of the world if you two aren't together when the children come. You just think you can change him. Alayna, some people do change - but I've got a strong feeling that he won't, no matter what you try to do."

Alayna frowned at him and felt tears start to prick at her eyes, "Lein, please, just stop and know that I know what I'm doing. He can do better. And he will do better. I believe in him. You used to believe in me. I'm just asking you to do it again. You don't have to like him, but I need you to trust that I know what I'm doing." She looked over at Macmillan and wiped her arm off, "It's fine. No harm done."

Madison's eyes lit up with genuine excitement when he said he could win her a prize, "Really? You can win the giant stuffed Niffler?" She said looking over at the game and the giant prize at the top of the wall, "You mean it? You're not just saying it to impress me?"

"Yes... I suppose I am. After breaking up with Hazel quite recently," he said, smiling a little at her. "So what's Teddy's name?" he asked brightly, thinking it would be best to change the subject.

When the other girl approached, he said: "I'm sorry, I don't know. But if you go further down there you'll get to Honeydukes, I expect something will be there." he smiled, pointing in the direction.

Adelaide smiled politely at him, "Thanks. You're Louis right,m I remember my dormmate from Illvermony saying something about you." She remembered her exact words were blonde and smiling all the time, "I'm Adelaide Fischer. I'm here for the exchange."

"I haven't named him yet..."

She turned the teddy over and looked at its face; Marilyn couldn't think of a name!

"Can you think of a name for him? Please?"

Marilyn hoped the other girl would go away as quickly as possible. Nobody needed to see her moping!

Lien got most of Macmillan's drink on him, very little went on Alayna. "Nice one, Macmillan..." he said, and was grinning. At least it took away some tension. He was looking back at Alayna as he used a drying spell. "Just keep your options open, okay?" Argh. He looked back at Macmillan. "Have you seen James?"

At least he didn't lose too much of his cocktail; it was one of the pricier ones, and he'd rather save those coins for something more substantial.

"I haven't, bro. He's probably at one of the food stalls."

"Yeah I ain't lyin'!" he protested, tensing his arms as he trudged up to the high striker and took up the hammer. The first go he hit fairly well but not all the way to the top. He kept doing more or less the same at every other try, but now he'd just taken to smashing it repeatedly until the person overseeing it asked him to let someone else have a go.

Pissed off, he slumped away.

"Yes, that's right," he said, beaming. "Nice to meet you." He looked thoughtful as he tried to think of a good name, but then he looked at the bear and said: "Reggie?"

Adelaide smiled when she realized they were trying to give the bear a name, "Reggie is a nice name. Good and strong for a bear like him." She realized the girl was upset and offered her a smile

Madison watched as he attempted to win the game and was a bit bummed that he didn't. But she wasn't all that upset. She walked back over to him as he slumped off, "It's ok. I don't need anything that big anyway. That stupid game is probably rigged. You totally seem strong enough to ring the bell." She wanted to cheer him up for some reason.

It was always rather fun when Hogsmeade organized events of its own; rather than spending Hogsmeade weekend doing the same few things, she could actually enjoy herself.

She drank some hot chocolate as she watched a couple playing a game of darts. Cherry was feeling like a background character in a Hallmark movie.

Reggie?

She looked at the bear's face. "Does he look like a Reggie?"

This weekend would be so much nicer if she had a boyfriend...

Although it wasn't Valentine's Day yet, Ptolemy was determined to make today special for Alayna as well. They seemed to be at a phase of bickering a lot, so getting out of the castle together would be good for them. Unfortunately, everyone else and their Aunt was out of the bloody castle today.

He'd got caught up in the crowd so he couldn't get near their meeting place, but he managed to come across her soon enough. The only thing was: she was standing and talking to those two. He went over to them at once, taking Alayna's arm. "Chang," he grumbled bitterly, "You never learn your lesson, do you? Stay away from her. Or else."

"Rigged to shit," he agreed, but was staring daggers into that grand prize stuffed Niffler she wanted. He was going to get it for her, no matter what. He walked over to where it was, and drew out his wand. Okay - he might not be the best at magic - but if he summoned it, then she'd have it. It seemed so wonderfully, effortlessly easy all of a sudden.
