hurry on home (alayna)

It was milder than it had been the last week, but Ptolemy was still wearing his gloves as he took a walk on the grounds that afternoon. He didn't know if his suggestion to Alayna had worked, whether she was staying or coming home, but at least he was assured enough that Memphis wasn't going to meet up with her. They had a discussion last night about it, and he had agreed to lay off.

Memphis made his usual, airy excuses: oh, but I was under the impression you were no longer engaged in a relationship, he had said, condescendingly.

That twerp.

At least he couldn't see his breath today, but he couldn't stand being shut up inside of the dungeons, despairing over Alayna. If she was going to return, she would return. He just had to be patient. But he wasn't.

Alayna had been looking for Ptolemy since she returned with no luck. She decided to look around the grounds and get some fresh air in the process. That was when she saw him. She felt her eyes start to tear up as she ran to him and hugged him from behind. She gripped him tightly and hid her face in his back, "Tolly...."

He was looking out to the horizon over the lake, when he heard footsteps running towards him. Before he could turn around to confront them, however, he took a breath of her scent and her arms were around him.

"Alayna," he said gently, feeling a wash of relief come over him. For a moment he stayed there, hearing her sob into his back, but then he placed his hands on hers, easing her grip, and turned to face her, running his hands down her shoulders. A smile crossed over his face. This was where she was supposed to be: in their own country, with him.

He put his arms around her and lifted her up off her feet, embracing her closely.

"Don't run off like that again," he murmured to her ear.

Alayna finally felt like she was home again when he lifted her off of the ground, "I won't. I promise. I'm sorry for everything. I'm sorry." She held onto him tight, afraid that if she let go he would go away again. "I missed you so much." She said, hiding her face in his neck, "I love you, Ptolemy."

"I love you. Ardently, I love you."

He buried his lips into the top of her head, and breathed her sweet scent. After a while of gripping onto her, he put her back down onto the ground, curling his gloved finger to her cheek to collect her tears. Then, smoothing down her shoulders and her arms, he took her hands to his, lowering his gaze.

"But Memphis? Really? Please tell me it was just you playing your games, and I shall sleep sounder."

Alayna nuzzled into his touch and sighed softly. She had missed his touch, the gentle caresses he made of her body. She wrapped her fingers with his and chuckled, "Of course it was. Quite silly if you to think otherwise." She looked at his hands and frowned, "Why are you wearing gloves?" She took his hand went to pull one of them off of his hand
