Can't take the heat (Lien)

Serena sat in the common room with her feet curled under her on the couch. She had a book opened and she was lazily leading the pages. She had known alot was going on inside the Ravenclaw Tower. What with the Lien and James Drama. And the drama between Atticus and his sister. Ravenclaw was never one to attract drama before. It was why she enjoyed her house. She turned to the next page of the book and felt a presence enter the room.

"It's fine," he said quickly, annoyed at how his voice cracked a little bit. "I'm just tired."

He tried to turn the voice crack into a yawn, and it worked. Somewhat. At least the tears had sunk back from where they came from. He refused to look pathetic in front of another girl ever again.

Serena nodded at his excuse of exhaustion. She could pretend to buy that excuse, sure, "You know, if you're that tired maybe you should save the book for tomorrow. As something to look forward too. And get yourself some sleep?"

"Perhaps..."

He looked her over. She was pretty, but she was younger than him. Wasn't she Mei's age? It was so difficult to tell with girls sometimes, they seemed to grow up faster than boys. You still had boys in their fifth year measuring five-four.

"I like to read in bed, though. Usually I fall asleep with the book on top of me, and one of the boys in the dormitory takes it and puts it away. He's a clean freak," he told her, smiling. Why was he even telling her this? Perhaps it was nice just to talk normally with someone...

Serena was amused by the thoughts running around in his head. He thought she was pretty? She blushed a bit but tried to hide it. He didn't need to know she was in his head. People didn't like it often. "I do that too. I wake up with a crease in my side from rolling over on top of it." It was funny to her, she was such a restless sleeper.

"You can sleep while on top of a book?" he asked, chuckling a little. "Interesting. Are you also one of these people who can sleep through an electric power drill?"

Perhaps she didn't know what that was.

"... I mean a very, very loud, constant noise."

"Yep. And yes, I can. I can sleep through almost anything. Except, for my alarm clock. That's the only thing that can wake me up." She didn't know why, it was just the way it was. "Are you a light sleeper? Serena was lucky. Once she was out, she was out for the night.

"Not really. I suppose I'm more middle of the road. Sometimes I can sleep heavily, and then other times I'm waking to the slightest sound."

He smiled very slightly at her. Perhaps if she had some lipstick on, she would be a real knock out...

"It's not always quiet in my dormitory, though. It can all get a little boisterous. Now Atticus is back as well, the Quidditch conversations have gone to a new level. Then Macmillan is always trying to compare that to surfing. I'm just not really interested..."

Serena nodded in understanding, "I see." She laughed a bit at the idea of the boys getting all rowdy and such in their room, "Oh yeah. Atticus is back, isn't he?" Serena had had a childhood crush on Atticus before she found out he was gay."He's comparing surfing to quidditch?"
