It all goes boom (open)

Serena was experimenting In the potions classroom trying to perfect the Draught of Living Death potion. She wrinkled her nose a bit at the sloth brains but added them to the potion. She added the bean juice and stirred her potion and waited for the results. But nothing happened. She groaned and threw her goggles down on the table and held her head in her hands "what am I not doing right!?"

Iris had been making her way around the school trying to find a way to pass her time without going into Hogsmeade. She stopped in her tracks when she heard someone from the potions classroom. Entering, she looked around before making her presence known.

"What are you doing?"

Serena turned when she heard a voice and frowned a bit before turning back to her potion. She spoke as she worked on brewing a new batch of the potion "I am trying to perfect the Draught of death potion. I just can't seem to get it right" she said adding the sloths brains once more " there's something I'm missing. But I don't know what it is"

"What have you put in there so far?" Iris asked as she looked at the cauldron's contents briefly.

Serena sighed and went over her notes "I've already added the infusion of wormwood, the Asphodel and the sloth brains. It seems to always get messed up when I add the sopophorous beans." She said cutting the beans to the best of her ability " I may have to ask my grandpa for help" she said not saying exactly who her grandfather was

Iris pondered about the other girl's situation. "The beans are what causes the sleepiness I believe. Maybe you could try grinding it to get the juice out?"

"but the book specifically says to cut the beans." She said looking over her text to make sure she had her information correct "wouldn't deviating from the text be dangerous?" She asked yet she was curious about what would happen if she took the girls suggestion

"Clearly whoever wrote it only thought about what was practical for them." It never hurt to go outside the box anyway. "The juice is what's needed. Cutting doesn't seem to be the way to go."

"if I blow up grandpa sevs potion lab he will be furious" Serena said but couldn't help the small giggle that escaped as she crushed the beans, this time gathering alot of the juice she needed. She added the juice and watched as she potion turned the lilac color she needed "holy shit. You're a genius" she said with a wide smile on her face

Iris shrugged. "I'm not. It wasn't even my idea to begin with! There's this legend about the Half-blood Prince."

Time to pique her interest and play with her emotions a bit. See if she can connect the dots.

Serena wrinkled her nose a bit. She was curious about what the girl had to say now "what's the half blood prince?" She asked as she had never heard of the name until now. If he was a potions prodigy Serena would have heard of him, right?

"If the rumors are true, it definitely seems like you don't know your own grandfather well enough."

Nothing like the rare chance to actually be condescending. "His mother came from the Prince family. He's half-blood. It's in the books, you know?"

"it seems I wouldn't. I didn't even know the man till this past summer. I never knew much of my father's side of the family." She said feeling a bit ashamed that she didn't know much of her grandfather. It was definitely something she wanted to work on though "what can you tell me?"

Iris raised an eyebrow. A Ravenclaw that wouldn't take things into her own hands? How interesting.

"You mean you never got the urge to hit the library and do any of your own research? You know, you could've had closure much sooner with some common sense. Family is important in this world. We wouldn't be who we are if we didn't know the history."
