something new (macmillan)

First topic message reminder :

Bijou wasn't sure that this was all a good idea. Amaryllis was a sweetheart but she wasn't sure if meeting for this blind date with her brother would turn out well. Of course, she understood what the older woman was trying to do. She hadn't really made any friends since she had been here. It was kind of difficult to make friends when you were constantly having to watch your back. She had been here for a year or so now though and no one had come looking for her so maybe they had let her go? She kind of doubted that she could be that lucky but then again, maybe she was? Either way, she had reluctantly agreed to meet with this Hyacinth that Amy spoke so highly of. She just hoped that they could have a good time and at the very least maybe she could leave with an actual friend.

She was told by Amy that she didn't have to dress up for the date, that Hyacinth liked to keep things casual and Bijou liked that even more. She didn't want to have to try to hide her weapons in some slinky little dress or something. It was much easier to do in a jumper and her jeans, even if they weren't exactly baggy either. She was just very adept at hiding them since she never went anywhere without them. Life growing up as a hunter since birth had taught her that she could never be too careful. She did make sure she did look at least somewhat nice though, didn't want to send him running because she looked like a mess.

When she made it to the boardwalk she looked around for someone that would match Amy's description. She wished there was some other way for them to find each other. It would be really embarrassing if she were to walk up to the wrong person. Though, she knew that was a chance she would have to take as she spotted someone matching his description sitting at a table alone. She approached, an apprehensive smile on her lips. "Are you Hyacinth?" She asked, her accent ringing out clearly as she hoped that she hadn't approached some random person.

Compared to a lot of other Sacred 28 families, he was privileged. They had a lot more room to do whatever with their lives. No arranged marriages to worry about, no empire to prevent from crumbling, no need to always keep his chin high and haughty. He only had skepticism towards his choice of career to worry about.

Macmillan had it pretty damn good.

Chugging down some lemonade, he placed the near-empty glass back down onto the table. "I think they broke up because of how their careers might pull them apart? It's been years, I don't know, but I can tell they're still into each other. Amy was recently his plus one at his brother's wedding."

Bijou had never known true freedom until she had run away but now she was determined to grab ahold of it with both hands. She wouldn’t take the small things in life for granted, like a simple blind date. She thought Macmillan was cool after all. He seemed like the type of person she could get along with. She frowned just a bit as he spoke of why his sister and this Memphis had broken up but it soon turned into a smile. ”oh really? I had heard her speak of this wedding but she left that portion out! Good for her.” she was truly happy for the girl who was probably the closest thing to a friend she had here, the closest thing she had to a friend anywhere. ”She deserves to find happiness.” she said, fully believing it. Didn’t everyone though? She took another bite from one of her shrimp.

"I only heard most of what I have about the wedding through my bro, Atti. He made the cake because his sister was the bride."

It was an extremely small world in wizarding Britain.

As he was about to respond to Bijou, the waiter returned asking if they were ready to order any entrees.

"You can order first, Bijou!"

Macmillan flipped through the menu working on figuring out which meal he had the most appetite for.

"Your... bro... makes cakes? I can only imagine it had to be a very fancy cake to be included in such a wedding so he must be very good at it." She didn't know so much about the local slang and such so him referring to Atti as his bro was different for her but she took it in stride as much as she could. She needed to learn more about the way people talked here to fit in better. Even if there was nothing to be done about her accent. She smiled politely to the waiter as he approached then to Hyacinth as he said she could order first. She gave one last look at the menu which was predominantly seafood.

"I'll have the seafood alfredo, please." She said politely before looking to Hyacinth with a smile while she waited for him to order as well.

"Atti's the greatest cook I know! I think he learned it at that academy he went to for a few years."

Like a true bro, Macmillan wasn't going to elaborate on it. That was for his bro to talk about later after he and Bijou likely meet later. It was already hard enough talking about aspects of his family on a blind date, he didn't need to bring up his friend's trauma as well. Major. Mood. Killer.

He was still looking through the menu when the waiter looked at him expectantly for his order. Blushing very slightly, Macmillan replied, "Crab legs please? Thanks!"

He remembered some of his manners.

The waiter left again with their orders.

"Atti cleans a ton too. He always had to pick up after our bro, Lien, back at Hogwarts."

"I bet that makes things nice when you guys hang out! You never have to worry about who is going to bring the snacks." She said with a laugh. Not that she would really know much about hanging out with friends since she had never really been allowed to have any. That was in the past though, now she was determined to live a normal life! She didn't mind when he was still looking at the menu after she had ordered, she was in no actual hurry and was perfectly happy to let him take his time in deciding. There was so much to choose from after all!

She smiled when the waiter left after getting Macmillan's order. "Were they both your dorm mates when you were in school? It sounds like everyone in the dorm was quite different. That had to make things interesting." She could maybe live vicariously through his stories of he and his bros when they were back in school. She hadn't gotten such experiences so she was looking forward to hearing about things that they did and trouble they might have gotten into.
