Spring Formal ((Main Thread))

Twas the night before the spring equinox, and every corridor in Hogwarts had been filled with excitement and anxiety as the annual Spring Formal finally arrived. Many students spent the day down in Hogsmeade preparing for the big night while others worried that it’d end up a disaster just like the pre-season dance. What if the horde of toads returned to invade the Great Hall? What if someone else ended up being dramatically outed over the PA system?

Although Camille had been working hard to make sure this would be a night to remember, there were many concerns in the back of her mind. She was afraid that the community was beginning to lose confidence in her, which meant this was her one shot to prove them all wrong. If both students and staff were happy, the Board of Governors and parents would be happy, which would let her be happy. This needed to go well and be the best night Hogwarts has ever had!

As usual, the Great Hall’s ceiling showed off the starry, starry sky that cloaked the castle. All around the hall were arrays of blooming gargantuan flowers that let off a pleasing aroma, similarly to what one would find from Amortentia. The lighting was dim with streaks of purples, blues, and pinks illuminating the glittery, starlike floor that glowed with every footstep. Around where the usual podium and staff table would be was a stage for  a live band to perform all sorts of popular songs both wizarding and muggle. In another corner of the Great Hall was a caricature artist and opposite of the artist was a professional photographer. To her, it was a guaranteed safe and fun way for the students to have fun mementos to remember the night.

Stepping to the podium, Camille tested the microphone with a wide smile. Then, she waved and looked over at all of the students, chaperones, guests, and governors as she began her speech, "Welcome everyone to the annual Hogwarts Spring Formal!" Despite the starry theme, there were plenty of flowers to be seen within the crowd of couples. "The past few weeks and months have been nothing short of eventful, but our Hogwarts spirit allowed us to get through it without being knocked down! As we near the end of term, finals, examinations, and the summer holiday, take a moment to congratulate yourself and your peers for all of the progress made in all of your years here! Tonight is all about fun and rewarding all of you for your hard work! Have fun, be safe, be kind!"

As soon as the speech ended, she waved her wand and a disco ball dropped down to commence a long night of dancing and debauchery. The live band started to perform a lively cover of Weird Sisters “Do The Hippogriff”.

Making her way around the Great Hall, Aquila squealed in excitement as the good vibes at the formal were contagious. She managed to find her way in the middle of the dancefloor near where Alayna and Ptolemy were; holding up her camera, she began taking a bit too many pictures of them to start the night.

After arriving with her twin to the formal earlier, Medea had been among the first in the Great Hall to have gotten in line for the cariacature drawings. She hoped being one of the deputy headmaster's daughters would push her to the very front of the line, but that ended up not being the case.

Playing with one of her braids, Medea glanced around the hall and puckered her lips.

Delilah stiffened at first when Atticus pulled her into a hug. She had never really been the type to show affection or even to really know how to accept it but she eventually relaxed and even hugged him back a little. That's what friends did, right? She smiled a bit at his compliment. "Thanks... I wasn't sure I would fit in at this whole formal thing." She said with a bit of a shrug. She had never been to something like this and couldn't help but to let her gaze wander around to all the others in their formal wear. She laughed a bit when he introduced his friends before warning her about Wade. "Nice to meet you both. Your bloke?" That's how polite people greeted others, right? Sounded right to her, even if James' statement was not anything she had ever heard before. Atticus' arm was then threaded through hers and she clung to him a bit, not realizing how nervous she had been and just how much he managed to set her at ease.

"I guess you get used to it." She said, remembering how the staircases had moved and set her all off track and vowing not to go wandering around the halls alone again. She might really get lost! She noticed that the guy who said he was James didn't seem all that happy to be there, or maybe he was just like her and was nervous around all of the fanciness? Who knew? "A perv, huh?" She asked, turning to look at Atticus with a brow raised in questioning. "I don't believe it." She said with a laugh.

Stepping into the Great Hall was like taking a walk down memory lane. So many amazing memories of her time at school at Hogwarts flooded her as she glanced around. Very little seemed to have changed since she had graduated and the sense of nostalgia almost brought a tear to her eye. How long had it been since she had actually walked the halls of Hogwarts? Oh, how she missed those days but she knew that such things always came to an end and she was just happy that she could look back on the memories fondly.

She scanned the room, looking for Memphis in the crowd of students and others who had been invited to attend the event. It was almost like old times when she waited to see his reaction to seeing her across the room. Of course, he wasn't waiting for her outside of her dorm this time so there was no telling how long it might take her to find him, there were quite a few people filling the Great Hall as there always was at events such as this.
