Spring Formal ((Main Thread))

Twas the night before the spring equinox, and every corridor in Hogwarts had been filled with excitement and anxiety as the annual Spring Formal finally arrived. Many students spent the day down in Hogsmeade preparing for the big night while others worried that it’d end up a disaster just like the pre-season dance. What if the horde of toads returned to invade the Great Hall? What if someone else ended up being dramatically outed over the PA system?

Although Camille had been working hard to make sure this would be a night to remember, there were many concerns in the back of her mind. She was afraid that the community was beginning to lose confidence in her, which meant this was her one shot to prove them all wrong. If both students and staff were happy, the Board of Governors and parents would be happy, which would let her be happy. This needed to go well and be the best night Hogwarts has ever had!

As usual, the Great Hall’s ceiling showed off the starry, starry sky that cloaked the castle. All around the hall were arrays of blooming gargantuan flowers that let off a pleasing aroma, similarly to what one would find from Amortentia. The lighting was dim with streaks of purples, blues, and pinks illuminating the glittery, starlike floor that glowed with every footstep. Around where the usual podium and staff table would be was a stage for  a live band to perform all sorts of popular songs both wizarding and muggle. In another corner of the Great Hall was a caricature artist and opposite of the artist was a professional photographer. To her, it was a guaranteed safe and fun way for the students to have fun mementos to remember the night.

Stepping to the podium, Camille tested the microphone with a wide smile. Then, she waved and looked over at all of the students, chaperones, guests, and governors as she began her speech, "Welcome everyone to the annual Hogwarts Spring Formal!" Despite the starry theme, there were plenty of flowers to be seen within the crowd of couples. "The past few weeks and months have been nothing short of eventful, but our Hogwarts spirit allowed us to get through it without being knocked down! As we near the end of term, finals, examinations, and the summer holiday, take a moment to congratulate yourself and your peers for all of the progress made in all of your years here! Tonight is all about fun and rewarding all of you for your hard work! Have fun, be safe, be kind!"

As soon as the speech ended, she waved her wand and a disco ball dropped down to commence a long night of dancing and debauchery. The live band started to perform a lively cover of Weird Sisters “Do The Hippogriff”.

He merely smiled in response, took her hand and placed his other at her shoulder blades, then stepped into a dance that was very much a regurgitation of Ballroom Dancing 101 that all purebloods learned from early on. Comarth hadn't the interest or the means to think outside the box when it came to dancing, so he performed it as what was expected and left it at that.

At least he wasn't stumbling or tripping anywhere. It was good enough.

His eyes kept pivoting to her hair when she looked away, his legs and feet going into auto mode as his mind was preoccupied by thought.

Ladies handbags that could shrink inside any garment - bottomless pockets - wandless capabilities - enchantments - dragonhide - dragons. Dragons. Dragons.

It took most of his willpower not to mutter to himself as he went. At least he could keep a fairly neutral expression of light contentment about his situation.

While they waltzed, Jeneva looked all around the Great Hall bored out of her mind when her tune quickly changed when the live band began to sing a song by one of her favorite boy bands.

"Do you hear that??? They're playing a song by the best band EVER! The Beastly Boys!"

Well you certainly couldn't waltz or do any kind of civilised dancing to Beastly Boys so Comarth slowed the rhythm until he stopped completely. That certainly counted as one dance, didn't it? Surely.

"Thank you for the dance, Jeneva," he said, "But I feel a dance to this sort of music is out of my element." Still holding her hand, he kissed the back of her knuckles swiftly before releasing her.

Siobhan wasn't one to not attend events just for lack of a date. If anything, she would find someone to entertain her while she was here. She stood next to the snack table with a cookie and a glass of punch. She saw Waade and immediately felt a blush cross her face. Why was he so handsome?

"Fruit gums? Hate those. Oh - fruit flavour gum. Juicy fruit? Yesss lad."

He stuck out his hand eagerly, not realising that Fruit Gums and Juicy Fruit wasn't something they'd likely to have had.

"So," he said, chewing his gum loudly. "Reckon I'll get a snog? Ya both benders, you'd know that kinda shit."

"Er, is mango good?" he inquired, taking the piece of gum out of the packet and handing it to Wade. James grabbed a grape one as he was went through all of the dragonfruit-flavored gum already.

Would he get a snog? James wasn't too optimistic, but he didn't think Marilyn was extremely easy. "If ya treat her right, ya might get a kiss on the cheek."

As Cassie was in the basement with the Hufflepuffs and he up in Ravenclaw Tower, it was much easier to meet up with her in the Great Hall. Lazar, as usual, was quite dorky and lame in appearance. His hair was nicer looking than usual thanks to Sleekeazy. His black suit was slightly oversized and blocky, but it draped over him normally enough.

He stood awkwardly near the entrance of the Great Hall holding a few sunflowers and a small box of chocolates. Where was she?

Was this all one huge mistake? Delilah had probably asked herself that same question a million and one times since she had gotten there to the castle. Nothing bad had happened yet but she was just so far out of her comfort zone that she just knew that her good luck couldn’t last! When had she ever had good luck before in her life? Nothing had ever come easily for Delilah. But it seemed like things were looking up for her a bit. She didn’t trust it.

She didn’t mind getting ready in the head girl’s dorm. She just hoped that the other girl didn’t mind either. It wasn’t like she had heard her object or anything so she took that as a good sign. Though, she still got ready as quickly as she could so that she hopefully wouldn’t annoy the other girl too much by taking too long and holding her up. She was uncomfortable in the dress that she wore but she knew it was just because it was nothing like her normal wardrobe. She wasn’t someone who was particularly comfortable with change, that much was for sure. But even she thought that she looked presentable as she had left the dorm room.

After getting lost a couple of times on her way to the Great Hall, she finally decided to just follow some group of students because surely in their formal clothes they had to be headed the same direction she was. Right? Luckily, they seemed to be as she walked through the big doors that led into the great hall. She glanced around, searching for Atticus. Finally, she spotted him and hurried over to him. ”sorry, I got lost a couple of times on my way here.” she said, shuffling a bit on her heels that she had spent entirely too long trying to walk in since being invited to come here. A quick glance was given to the other two with Atticus but she said nothing to them just yet.

After arguing with her hair and having to fix it about 8 tikes, Cassie finally made her way down to the great hall to meet Lazar. She loved the dress she had chosen. The dark blue really made her eyes stand out. She saw him waiting for her as she descended down the stairs. She smiled as she walked over to him, "You got your hair to behave. It looks really good."

Happily perusing the refreshments table, Hermione grabbed herself a cup of a passionfruit fizzy drink and a small plate of biscuits. She noticed Lien there and smiled at him. "Hello, Lien! How are you?"

Those robes! It reminded her slightly of the ones Cho wore at the Yule Ball. They looked so beautiful!

Cece decided to heed her brothers advice and attend the dance, even without a date. She walked into the great hall and scannescanned the people, when she saw her mother and brother, she walked oveover to them, "Hello, Mother. Hello Hector." .

"Hello, Cecelia," Millicent greeted before raising her eyebrow at the length of her dress. "Isn't that dress a bit short? Tell me you're at least wearing stockings under it."

It was important for a Burke to dress with some degree of decency. That dress just made her think of some of the Riddle girls. She respected Lochlan and Katherine a whole lot, but some of his children's decisons were questionable.

"Oh mother. It's a great length. So many girls arare wearing long dresses. This way, I'll make a mark." She said giving the dress a light twirl, "And yes, I am wearing stockings. Don't worry mother, or else, you'll get lines." She said with a smile.

Sighing, Millicent shook her head. Oh, Cecelia. Why couldn't she have been sorted into Slytherin or maybe even Ravenclaw? At least that house had some agreeable people. "It's a formal, Cecelia. Dresses of that length aren't considered suitable for such an occasion, dear."

Millicent liked to think she was simply trying to look out for her daughter and steer her the right way. "How are your studies?"

Turning towards the stairs at the right time, he ended up having to clean his glasses as Cassie walked down it. It appeared she was wearing a dark blue dress from the blobs he was able to make out. That was Cassie? What if it wasn't Cassie??? Then he'd feel bad as he's her date! It's bad enough dealing with the awkwardness of having her and Layla in the same room sometimes!

He slid his glasses over the bridge of his nose and smiled at Cassie once she was near him. "Thuh-thuh-thank yuh-you... Yuh-you luh-look nice tuh-too..." Handing over the flowers and chocolates to her, Lazar said, "They guh-got suh-someone to druh-draw portraits..!"

MacKenna refused, point blank, to have the tie up any further than at the centre of his collarbone, so Atticus left it as it was - in a neater windsor knot than whatever he was trying to achieve before. He glanced at James worryingly. Not even MacKenna's brash silliness was enough to relieve the tension inside of him: he still looked as though he was going to be sick everywhere.

As others piled into the hall, Atticus remembered that he had to keep a look out for Delilah. They'd only briefly spoken when she'd got there. At least she was being well looked after by Cherry: one could always rely on that.

When she did appear, he was smiling broadly at her. Before she could even finish what she was saying, he was giving her a big, warm hug that was by no means brief. "You look absolutely stunning," he murmured to her, before finally moving away. A small stroke of her cheek as he admired her beautiful, big eyes and he chuckled, turning spiritedly to face James again.

"This is my good friend - James Potter. And that's Wade MacKenna." He moved closer to her ear and added in an undertone. "Just don't listen to a word he says..." Then, moving away again he added to the boys: "This is Delilah, my friend from Ilvermorny!" He looped his arm between hers, seemingly in higher spirits than before. "Sorry that you got lost... I forget how complicated this castle is. I don't think any of us can really say how to get to places here, we just go to them automatically after a while."

Wade's lip curled up sulkily as he groaned, and took the gum.

"I'll get a kiss on the lips at least, c'mon..."

Urgh.

Then some hot American chick showed up and Wade forgot to chew his gum for a few moments, but it was back rolling around his gob before long. He lifted his head simply to her as a greeting. "Alright? Ya came with the wrong bloke - Attipuss is a massive perv."

"Good evening," he replied to his sister, and left the dispute over dress lengths and stockings between her and their Mother. He glanced between them, until he was looking back at Nott and Potter again. A girl he'd never seen before was being smothered by Nott, and the mudblood appeared to be chewing on something like a cow did grass. Disgusting. Recoiling in contempt, he looked away again.

"Cecelia and I were going to dance together, weren't we?" he added to her pointedly.

Cece was about to try and defend her attire decisions when Hector came in for the rescue. She smiled at him, appreciatively before nodding, "Yes. WWe we're." Knowing her brother had her back made her feel a bit better about attending alone.

He had gotten so used to not dealing with so much interaction over the past few months; James didn't think he knew how to act in public anymore. He pondered some of Atticus' words such as how this setting made him think of posh pricks. Merlin, how was he able to go from spilling his heart out to acting as if everything's okay just like that???

Smiling slightly, James waved at her somewhat awkwardly. "Er, yeah, I'm James. Me bloke's somewhere getting drinks..."

Was there a long line or did Lien somehow get lost?

She glanced at him almost offensively over having her knuckles kissed by such a weirdo, but it didn't take long for her focus to become totally occupied by the band performing. Jeneva pulled her tiny purse out of her hair and began to check her makeup yet again, making sure that it wasn't messed up.

"Hello, Mrs Granger," Lien replied, smiling back at her. "I'm okay... but I don't think James or Atticus are, for various reasons."

He glanced over at them. Atticus seemed to be putting on a smiling, laughing face for a girl that must have been Delilah; but James very much looked miserable. It was slightly disturbing to see. The only one who looked relatively normal (for him, anyway) was MacKenna, except the fact that he was dressed a bit smarter.

"Excuse me."

While she was preoccupied by the music and the silly band cover, Comarth used the opportunity to retreat back to the sides of the hall. He got a refreshment, briefly looking over at Chang and Mrs Granger, and wondered if there was someone more on his level that he could speak to. Chang was quite smart and probably had interesting insights, but he was busy.

Persephone felt entirely out of place at the formal. She didn't normally wear long flowy dresses and she definitely didn't wear heels for hours on end. She wanted to go outside and throw the torture devices in the lake. But, that would get her in trouble. She would settle for just taking them off. She moved towards ssome seating and sat down, kicking the ivory heels off her feet with a sigh of relief.

"I see," Hermione responded with an understanding nod as she glanced over in their direction. Giving him a reassuring smile, she said, "I'll check in on them later."

The last thing she wanted to see what her godson becoming cagey and closed off again. He always seemed to do that when he needed the most help...

Not wanting to keep him held up for much longer, she exclaimed, "Have a wonderful evening!" Hermione had to keep an eye on the students and make sure they weren't behaving too inappropriately.

She went off into the crowd to see if any of her children were around.
