For the past couple of months, Edith had been in the dark surrounding her eldest daughter's condition, and she would've continued to have been blissfully unaware until it was too obvious had it not been for the mum gossip group chat on her crystal. She was horrified to find out that Evelyn was making the same mistake she had done; she tried so hard to ensure her daughters would make smarter decisions by attaching sex to marriage. She wanted them to be able to explore, have fun, and be successful before settling down! Of course, having her daughters wasn't the biggest hindrance to her professional life, but she often pondered how much further she'd be if she didn't have them back-to-back straight out of Hogwarts.

Edith had immediately secured an appointment in Professor Voclain's office to discuss the matter with her daughter and James Potter. A part of her was thrilled to have a permanent link to such a prestigious family, but she wished it wasn't the result of these circumstances, especially now that it's known that Potter is gay. How was he supposed to be good to her daughter without an actual attraction to her? Ugh.

Her appearance down the corridors turned many heads as she received some whistles from immature boys. Don't they realize that she's there for something urgent? The Daily Prophet was the only publication in wizarding Britain to not run a headline about the future Potter grandchild as there was no way she was opening her daughters up to the public's vitriol. James, however, was fair game due to being born in a famous family.

After exchanging greetings with Camille, she sat down as Camille called for Evelyn and James to come to her office immediately also adding that they weren't in trouble. Edith hoped her daughter had a good explanation for covering this up.

Evelyn was beyond mad to learn that her mother knew about what was going on because she knew her mother would try to get her in some kind of a mess right now. She didn't want Edith knowing, because she liked to think that she had a plan to get out of this mess, but Edith would have some little sneaky plan.

She entered Camille's office and spotted Edith. The expression on her face could read that Edith was not happy about what was going on, and Evelyn sighed. "I take it you know." sighed Evelyn. This made her want to cry even more because she knew her mother would think of something sinister.

Edith sighed seeing her eldest, beautiful daughter enter the office all knocked up. She wasn't supposed to become a grandmother so young! She wasn't even in her forties! Nodding somberly, she crossed her legs hoping James would arrive so this discussion would be over with as quickly as possible.

"Evelyn, I hope you have a good explanation for not saying something earlier..."

Evelyn didn't want Edith causing a whole big scene, and putting her stupid family tainting into the picture. "I didn't want this turning into a huge story, and I wasn't entirely sure I'd even go through with the pregnancy, but now I have no other choice since the whole world knows," she said taking a seat. "Please don't make me marry James, because I don't think he'd love me in the slightest, and I want to be with someone who makes me happy," she said hoping her mother didn't make a huge deal of what was going on right now. "I knew this would break your heart." she sighed.

If her daughter meant to keep it hidden, then who leaked the story? She doubted it was Marilyn as she would've said something out of concern if it came down to it.

Grabbing one of the tissues, she lightly dabbed around her eyes. Evelyn's sadness about the situation was making her emotional. Her daughter! Her baby was having a baby! Why did it have to be like this?

"We'll have to see what James wants to do. If the two of you aren't on the same page, I'll be torn..."

If the child were to be raised by either of them, the thought of the kid being born out of wedlock worried her.

James arrived a bit late to this impromptu meeting; it was a pain constantly looking down at the Marauder's Map trying to figure out the route with the least traffic. Sure, he was under his cloak to attract as little attention as possible, but he hated the thought of the entire school looking right at him through the corridors. Couldn't there have been a better way to summon him than through the same PA system that outed him?

Taking off his cloak, it was clear that he wasn't in the best condition sleep-wise. He didn't like the look Edith was giving him.

"If this is an interview, I ain't answerin'."

Evelyn was glad that her mother wasn't spitting on the idea of the two of them marrying right away, and she didn't also like the idea of James having any say in how things were being done. She gave a nod since it wasn't the right idea to argue, but the idea of her mother crying made her want to cry like hell. "I am sorry mum, I really am," she said with a huge sigh. She knew that it wasn't the best situation they were in right now.


Then the asshole walked in, and Evelyn just glared at him. "My mother knows that I am carrying your baby, and I am shocked you actually decided to show up. Too busy fucking whatever guy is desperate to fuck you," she spoke with anger because right now she wanted to kill James for ruining her life. She liked him until he ditched her at the dance, and she found out that he had been in love with men, she began bursting into tears.

He knew it. Evelyn did think he was an arsehole. Fuck.

James took one of the open chairs and slouched down having a hard time looking at either of them. He rubbed his face wishing he smoked earlier as it would've made sitting in here a lot more bearable.

"I 'aven't shagged anyone lately, Evelyn. Can't even get a break after walkin' in..."

Evelyn wanted to punch James in the face right now. "You left me at the fucking dance, and now you aren't even around to talk to anyone about what happened, and you do realize this pregnancy is much more important than whatever you are currently going through right now," she said trying to fight back her anger. "Do you think you really deserve a break? My life is ruined right now because you didn't use protection!" she shouted in anger.

If the pairing involved anybody else, Edith would be reveling in the tension and anger that filled the room. Instead, she was solemn and afraid. Afraid for her daughter. Afraid for the potential grandchild. Afraid of the future.

She looked at the two and pursed her lips not knowing where to start. "Besides the obvious, how did we end up in this situation?"

That question was completely interrupted when the argument between the two continued. Sigh. If her daughter wasn't involved, papers would be flying off the stands...

Evelyn felt like she was the more responsible and sensible one to answer this question.

"James didn't use protection like he was supposed to, because he swore that having anal sex didn't mean anything could happen to either one of us, and now I'm pregnant," she said with a lot of anger. "Not to mention, he left me alone at the dance doing whatever drugs he usually does, and I found out he's gay," she said with anger.

She knew if circumstances were different Edith would be making a story right now.

He found himself talking over top of Evelyn. It appeared she didn't want him to get words in. "I woulda stayed at the dance if fuckin' Rowle wasn't a righteous cunt threatenin' to out me." James didn't want to attend in the first place, but he wasn't going to add that. He wanted Evelyn's opinion of him to improve marginally at least.

He slid himself up the chair to feel more awake. "Didn't bloody realize that doin' it up the bum wasn't fool-proof! I wanna be there for the sprog! I'm sorry ye got dragged into my fuckin' circus of a life. Ye dunno how lucky ye are that yer conception wasn't in the papers."

He shouldn't be arguing as it wasn't good for the baby, but Evelyn gave him little choice in the matter.

Evelyn was beyond mad for words right now. She was glad to see James trying to at least say his side of the story, but right now she had been going through a lot right now. "Rowle was a fucking asshole for doing that to you, but I wish you would have at least told me you were gay," she said trying to calm down. Evelyn didn't feel anything for James, to begin with right now, and hoped her mother didn't get any ideas.

"I didn't think it could happen either, but we still should have used protection," she said with a lot of anger. "I'd prefer if you didn't call our unborn child, a sprog!" she said with anger. The words didn't sound right to her in the slightest, "James you do realize I have every right to be livid with you right now? I'm pregnant, and you are the literal talk of the school, and you do realize that if this pregnancy got out, you'd be destroyed right now, right?" she pointed out the obvious. "Please tell me you don't plan on reporting this?" she looked at her mother.

She was mad at James, but this would destroy them.

Tapping her fingers against her cheekbone, Edith was grateful that Evelyn was a bit sheltered; her poor daughter would be devastated if she was aware of how far the news went through wizarding Britain. She listened to the bickering waiting for the right spot to butt in with another question.

"We're the only paper not saying something..."

Unfortunately, Edith had to be honest about that. Her poor girl didn't realize how hard it was going to get once the media got a hold of her identity. "The good news is that your name hasn't been publicly identified. The bad news is that it's an open secret thanks to your classmates connecting the dots because of a certain somebody." She glared at James pointedly.

"What are your plans?"

She hoped their plans were congruent so it'd go a smoothly.

"Had to bloody say somethin' 'bout it 'cause if I didn't, somebody else woulda, and it woulda been worse if it didn't come outta one of us!"

It didn't excuse it, really, but it was his justification outside of being angry and lacking a filter.

James crossed his arms as he sunk further into the chair. "'Sprog' is just another way to say kid, Evelyn. Ain't an insult or anythin'." Cracking his knuckles, James answered, "My plan is bein' in the kid's life. I gotta take responsibility."

Evelyn felt like she hadn't been listening to the news like she should have been, and the expression on everyone's faces because it told her the outcome hadn't been good. She sat back and cried when she heard all the other papers have been talking about her pregnancy, and she just wanted to curl up in a ball in her dorm. She felt a little bit of a relief that her name hadn't been identified right now because she couldn't bear that. She looked at James, and just shook her head in disgust because she didn't even have a chance to process everything.

"You didn't think maybe to talk to me before bloody saying something?" she asked with her arms crossed. This was just embarrassing, but she knew that she had to keep herself together. Evelyn knew she had to think of some kind of plan involving the baby, and when she listened to James talk about his plan, she sighed. "I haven't thought of a plan yet, because I've been trying to focus on my studies. I don't know if I'm ready to be a parent, and I am certainly not ready to be married, if that's on the table, I'd like it off," she said since she didn't know what she wanted to do.

She just wanted to leave right now and put her nose in her textbooks. It seemed like it was so much safer there.

"I was put on the spot playin' truth or dare, a'right? Ye sister prolly woulda done the same if she got somethin' from it. She was 'ere too!"

James yawned from the tiredness doing whatever small movements he could to stay awake. "No fuckin' body's ever prepared, Evelyn." Professor Riddle left him with some wise words, didn't he?

"I'm willin' to raise it myself if I gotta..."

"Calm down," Edith urged desiring for this conversation to be more civil. After all, this was her daughter!

"Evelyn, do you know how far along you are?"

The most she could infer was that this happened over the summer.

"Oh no you aren't raising our kid, by yourself," she spoke sternly.

If she was going to keep the child, she'd do everything in her power to be a good mother to her child. A nod came when her mother told her to calm down, and she sighed. "Sorry it's just stressful," she commented.

"I'd say I'm probably three or four months along," she spoke, because she did find out right before they returned to Hogwarts, and they had a truth or dare over the summer.

He didn't argue. James just wanted to show how serious he was about wanting to be a part of that kid's life. Even after the talk he had with Professor Riddle, a part of him was scared about fatherhood. It was part of the process as nobody is ever truly prepared.

"Yer in yer second trimester..."

James tried to do some mental math on when the kid might come.

"Er, the spro- kid's gonna be born this spring..."

Three or four months..? Edith glanced away from the two and closed her eyes. How could she, as Evelyn's mother, be so oblivious?

"When did you find out? When did you start having symptoms?"

Edith couldn't bring herself to applaud James for doing basic guesswork. On the other hand, how did he know what a trimester was?
