Already, Athena had been turned away from the dance once for trying to show up in her jeans and leather jacket with a t-shirt underneath. Semi-formal, they said. And blue denim jeans just didn't pass for formal anything. A part of her had thought that maybe she could get out of the dance because she was turned away but she knew that she couldn't. Her mother was always harping at her that she needed to make connections, just studying all the time would get her nowhere. She needed to find her a good pureblood boy who would take care of her like her father took care of them. Blah, blah, blah. She just didn't want to deal with the howler that would come if her mother found out she hadn't attended. Though, she only had one dress in her trunk, she had tried removing it multiple times but somehow her mother had kept getting it back in there. It was DEFINITELY not Athena's taste... But she slipped into it and made her way back to the party, for once happy enough that she had learned how to walk in these bloody heels so she didn't make a fool of herself. Once she was there she glanced around. Why did she even bother? A howler from her mother would have been much more pleasant.

Macmillan wished the dress code for the dance was more casual so he wouldn't have to wear his older, preppier clothes, but there was no chance of wearing that challenge. He also didn't want to be consistently turned away until the staff were happy, so he simply threw himself into a plaid vest and khaki slacks and called it a day. It was going to be relieving to return to the dorm at the end of the night and throw on some shorts.

Seeing a girl standing around, Macmillan decided to join her. He didn't have the fondest feelings towards quidditch, and he wasn't going to waste his time in a empty common room. "Boring, huh?" Macmillan asked as he crossed his arms only to scratch around the side of his body. Ugh, this vest was itchy.

Athena kept her arms crossed over her chest as she leaned against the bleachers. What she wouldn’t give to be back in her dorm room trying to get ahead in her studies or doing anything but being here. Though, here she was just taking everything in. Then she heard someone stop close to her and a masculine voice filled her ears. She turned to look and saw some seventh year standing beside her. ”Yeah, I think I’d rather be just about anywhere but here right now.” this was such a waste of time! She sighed, running her hand through her hair without thinking much of all the work she had put into it looking neat.

"I didn't want to be stuck in an empty common room." It would've driven him insane to not at least hear the shuffling of papers. Now that he thought about it, tonight would've been his best chance to generate a good surf in the pool room. He'd have to consider getting that fix in after another half hour of hanging around the gymnasium. "Why couldn't they make the dress code casual? Everyone's dressed like they're at the bloody club!"

"My mother insisted I attend. She is always going on about how I'm missing so many opportunities by not going to these type of things. I just didn't want to deal with the howler she would send if word got back to her that I didn't attend." She said, arms still crossed over her chest. She wasn't sure why she was telling him this but she had done it anyway. She could actually relate to his complaint over the dress code though! "Ugh, I know. I got turned away once and told I wasn't dressed formally enough... So, I got stuck having to wear this." She was definitely much more of a jeans and leather jacket type of girl but here she was.

"I see she's one of those."

Although the Lestranges were strange, there were plenty of pureblood matriarchs who were focused on image and being out there socially. Macmillan was relieved that his mum didn't fall into that camp; besides her mum group friends, she tended to be family-oriented and the type to mind her own business. She was always pleasant to be around.

Macmillan was hating this vest! Hopefully, it wouldn't itch for much longer as he didn't know what'd happen discipline-wise if he went shirtless in the gymnasium during a dance. At least if it was gym class, there was the excuse of sweating. "Need to throw out this vest. I'm pretty sure twat bought it for me when he considered himself in charge of my wardrobe..."

"Yeah, one of those." She agreed. It was no secret that Athena and her mother didn't see eye to eye on most things. She was actually pretty sure that her mother only kept her around because she didn't want to ruin what she had with Athena's father. She often wished that she had one of the other women that her father was with as her own mother instead. At least many of them seemed to actually care about their children.

She couldn't help but to smile a bit when he went on complaining about the vest and some twat buying it for him. "Yeah, it definitely doesn't look all that comfortable." Then again, her own dress and heels were literally miserable to her so she couldn't really say all that much about it.

"I don't know how you can deal being in that family."

Macmillan didn't envy Athena at all; he'd rather have a twat than a Discordia ready to poke an eye out at any moment. "I don't know how my housemates are able to sleep either knowing Discordia's crawling around somewhere ready to make her attack..." He had heard about Chang's run-in with her a few weeks ago.

"It's a struggle on the best of days." Athena said quite honestly. She wasn't the type to cause problems, she was often overlooked because no one thought she was special in any way, she was just a face in a crowd to everyone. That was why she always worked so hard to try to prove herself to everyone. One day she would make them regret ever discounting her. She pulled a face at the mention of Discordia. "Yeah, it's always a thrill when she comes at you with some sharp object or another." She said it in a very deadpan voice. She always tried to keep her half-sister in her sight when she could. "I only had this in my trunk because my mother insisted." She said, able to relate in a way. This wasn't her scene, not at all.

Athena. That was her name? Yeah, it was her name. Athena seemed more of a Ravenclaw than Discordia did based on demeanor. It was weird. Discordia would've been right at home with the Carrow's psychopathy in Slytherin. Why was he thinking so much about those Lestranges other than talking to Athena? There was nothing better to do to distract himself from that itchy vest.

He should've grabbed something to drink so his arms weren't just lying at his sides. "Do you think she'll find a chance to stab someone tonight?"
