crossfire (open)

Sapphira had the misfortune of getting caught in a wand crossfire. It happened on the third-floor corridor when she was coming out of Charms class. Two boys were hitting one another with hexes, and one of them hit Sapphira when her back was turned. In front of everyone; her ears started to grow at an alarming rate: she had screamed and cried and tried to cover them. But she ended up looking like an elephant before long.

Sitting in the hospital wing, she had calmed down somewhat. Her ears were still the size of saucers, but she had everything covered up with a head scarf. Her eyes were still red raw from crying, and occasionally she sniffed.

The ear reduction procedure would take a little time. Apparently it was a bad idea to shrink them back quickly, as she could cause some damage to her hearing.

She was feeling very emotional about her time so far at Hogwarts. It wasn't how she imagined it would be...

Amara had not done her transfiguration homework for the week, so when it came time for class she had feigned sick. The help of some handy dandy tricks from Weasley Wizarding Wheezes were enough to have her sent to the nurse's office. Luckily, the wheezes were short acting and soon after she had made it to the hospital wing, she was perfectly fine again. Though, the matron had decided to keep her for a little while just to be sure.

The matron had left the room for the moment, though, probably to go get one healing potion ingredient or something, Amara would imagine. This just meant that instead of being stuck on the bed where she had been left that she was able to wander around a bit. That was when she heard a sniffle a little ways away and followed the sound. She saw the little girl sitting there wearing a head scarf, her eyes puffy where she had obviously been crying. Amara walked right over to her and plopped down on her bed. "Hey, kid. Why so upset?" Because why wouldn't the kid want her company when left here alone and obviously in distress?

Surprised at the sudden arrival of the older girl, Sapphira felt herself redden. She hadn’t expected to be asked so directly about what was upsetting her. The thought of relaying what happened in the corridor was making her feel a little sick.

”It was silly, dirty boys!” She launched at once, feeling her blood boil. ”They were fighting in the corridor, and they hit me instead. Now everyone knows that I...”

She shook her head.

”I hope they rot in detention!’

Leave it to Amara to show up wherever she might be the least welcome. She could see that the girl looked right embarrassed to be asked questions, but that didn't stop Amara from waiting for the answer that she was expecting would come. When the answer did come, she could only barely hold back a laugh at her explanation. The kid seemed thoroughly bent out of shape over whatever those boys had done to her. She knew that she shouldn't be amused by it... And she tried her hardest not to let the kid see that she was.

"How horrible of them." She said with a surprisingly straight face. If only she could have seen it... She was sure it would have been a sight. "I'm sure they'll get what's coming to them." She said with a little shrug of her slender shoulders. Seemed like something that might appease the kid who seemed as if smoke were going to start spouting from her ears if she got any more angry.
