practically unreliable (open)

Getting ahead on studying would always pay off, he thought, skulking the edges of the empty chamber. There was an dull echo of his footsteps as he rounded the circular room: looking at the shining marble floor and its intricate patterns. His dorm mates would never understand that it was simply how he operated. Now that he'd covered theory on all subjects, had practiced potions in the spare dungeon classrooms and had transfiguration and charms practice down: the only subject left to cover was DADA on a practical level.

He noticed a definite lack of training dummies since someone decided to torture Melanthius Burke. There was still one or two of the older models at the back, so he'd moved those ones forward. As he had no idea what a NEWT level practical examination would involve, he was eager to cover all areas of the subject. If only he had Atticus to practice duelling: what if the test was to beat Professor Riddle himself?

He shot a few spells at the dummy, but it just wasn't the same. Perhaps if he held out for a while, another NEWT student would come along who had a similar skill level to him.

Pandora was walking the halls when she heard muffled sounds coming from the dueling Chambers. She stopped and turned to face the room before deciding to check it out. She opened the door and stepped inside to see Lien chang. She smirked a bit as she leaned avainst the wall, observing him.

"Incarcerous!"

Ropes span out from thin air and wound themselves, neatly and precisely, around the target dummy. They bound the chest, over the shoulders and the hands to the back. He always liked to use transfiguration in defence classes: most just went straight for the offensive hexes and curses to bring down their opponent, but he preferred to do things a little differently.

He hadn't noticed another in the room, and was now checking the ropes for how secure they were.

Looking around his shoulder at Pandora, his eyes narrowed briefly.

"I think I know what I'm doing," he grumbled dismissively, making the ropes disappear with a a vanishing spell. He was never particularly good at taking advice from peers, plus he was incredibly touchy about the quality of his magic at this stage of the game, plus Pandora Carrow was a bitch. It was a bad combination.

Pandora laughed a bit, "You may think you know what your doing. But I'm twlling you, that you don't. Watch." She took out her own wand and pointed it at the dummy. As she did the spell, she twisted her wrist in the way she suggested anand smirked as the ropes clamped tight around the dummy, wrapping around like a boa constrictor, "Twist the wrist."

He watched begrudgingly. The ropes did wind themselves, but it looked more as if they were attempting to squeeze the life out of the target not just restrict their movement.

"It's sloppy," he commented, pushing up his glasses irritably. "And I think that your target has just snapped their neck. I'm not really aiming for an intent to kill here."

He sighed.

"What do you think the practical exam is going to be?" he asked her, feeling he may as well get someone's thoughts on it.
