what's a boy supposed to do? ((louis))

If there was anybody among his cousins who had the best experience in the love department, however loose it might've been, it had to be Louis. He had more actual relationships, from what he understood, realer than his anyway. After dinner, James went straight to Louis' dorm unable to handle being in the Gryffindor Tower as at any moment, Alayna fucking Nott would be going on about how she slept with Chang. Whatever friendliness they had was short-lived the moment he realized he was catching feelings.

Was Louis already in his dorm? Truthfully, James had been struggling to pay attention the entire day no matter what it was. His thoughts were too overwhelming. He began pounding at the door. "Aye, you in there?"

Louis was alerted by a sudden pounding on the door, causing him to spill some ink over his Charms homework. He heard James's voice from the other side of the door, and chuckled to himself. Using a quick spell to clean up the mess, he abandoned the parchment and went towards the door, opening it with a smile.

"Hello James. Come on in."

Beaming at him, he turned inside to his quarters. It was like a large, old hotel room. The bedroom was large with places to sit, he had his own desk and a bed that was big enough to fit seven people inside of it. The lavishness was something he felt too humble to accept at first, but he'd quickly got used to it.

"Do you want something to drink? I have some tea."

Entering the room, James got to have a good look at it. It wasn't nearly as luxurious as rumors said; that was disappointing. However, he envied the amount of space to spread out in. He loathed having to contain most of his items in a trunk.

"Er, yeah, some tea would be a'right," James answered as he pulled out a chair to sit on. "Can ye tell me how it feels to have a crush? I've been feelin' so confused lately..."

"Okay," he said happily, getting them some tea and sitting on the couch in there. He let James have the armchair. It was comfier.

"Oh... hmm."

He tilted his head to the side slightly, thinking of how it was best to describe the sensation.

"Well, I find that when someone is truly special to you, you can't help but think about them. You could be doing something completely unrelated, and they'll appear inside of your head. When they're close, you feel your insides glowing. Sometimes your heart beats a little faster. I often am thinking about what they're doing, or if they like the same things I like, and how it would be if we spent time together."

He beamed at him.

"I'm not sure if that was helpful, but that's my thoughts on it."

Listening attentively, James mentally compared Louis' description to what he had been feeling since the party.

Shit.

"Guess I am crushin' on someone then..." James ran his hand through his hair as Chang came to mind again. Of course, that was soon ruined by thinking about Alayna's grubby hands being all over him. Alayna slept with him. Why did he have to be so unlucky? "I always end up feelin' disappointed whenever I'm not 'round them. I wanna see 'em badly, but they're into someone else... It's ironic too as I'm not really fond of authority figures as y'know, but I'm driven crazy."

He glanced down as he wrapped his arm around the side of the chair.

"Feels like I'm suffocatin' not bein' able to do anything 'bout it..."

Louis listened to him, and smiled sympathetically.

"I also forgot to mention that it can be quite painful at times as well..."

Although most of his relationships had happened on mutual attraction, there were times when he was younger that he'd really longed for someone and it had been one-sided. Usually it was because those girls happened to detest the family name or something like that.

"Do you think she knows your feelings?"

She. James gulped.

"What makes it confusin' is that it ain't a she..."

Should he just admit it outright or go straight into it? On one hand, it would help get that out of his system for a while, but he spent so long hiding it.

Ever since he got confirmation from Alayna about Lien being mad about her, James tried his hardest to ignore how he felt. Of course, that only made it worse. He barely functioned keeping it in like that.

"No, he doesn't."

“Oh, all right then.”

He smiled brightly.

That’s all there was to it with Louis. James was just James to him - his cousin. He didn’t think too much about who he was attracted to.

“I see why you might think it’s a little more complicated letting him know about your feelings,” Louis told him, “And you may risk feeling upset if it’s not met with the response you want, but at least you have been honest to him - and yourself.” He sipped his tea a little bit. “I’m glad you came to me about this James.” He smiled at him.

Wow, that was a lot easier than he expected, and he didn't even have to use the word gay. Huh. Then again, it was Louis. What other reaction could he expect from his cousin?

Remembering that Louis brought him tea, he took a sip of it. "If that's not enough, I think I'm going to be a father."

His face scrunched as all those rumors came to mind.

“Is there a possibility you could be wrong, or is this something definite?” he asked gently.

@James Potter

"Just rumors currently, but I haven't heard much from Evelyn since this summer, y'know? I dunno if she's been with other blokes, but if true and she hasn't, then..."

It hadn't hit him how life-changing such a situation was.

“Well if it’s all just speculation at the moment, try to put it to the back of your head. The only thing I can suggest is finding her and talking to her, even if it is just speculation. Then you will either have your mind put to rest, or consider the next step.”

Louis patted James’s arm reassuringly. He really was going through it. He could sympathise.

“I’m here for you, though, James. If it does come to that.”

James was thankful he had gone to Louis about this mess he'd gotten himself into. Sure, he talked about it some with Fred, but he always had his invasive moments. Louis would just listen and smile it out.

'Yeah, I'm gonna have to find her. We have classes together, but not like she's been payin' me much mind."

Smiling at his cousin, he murmured, "Thanks, Lou Lou. Yer great. Anythin' ye wanna talk about?"

It wasn't like they've been able to chat too much with all of the craziness going on.

Louis beamed at him.

“Everything will come together, James. It always does.”

He put his empty tea cup down and stretched out on the couch a little bit. Louis seemed to have made himself feel right at home there.

“Hmm... well. I’m a little bit worried about Cherry, actually. She seems to be upset a lot of the nights: I can hear her voice but it always sounds a little shaky, like she’s out of breath. Perhaps I should say something to her.”

Going in to take another sip of his tea, James wound up spitting it out in laughter hearing Louis' concern.

"Eh, sorry 'bout that, Lou Lou." He playfully slapped his cousin on the arm. "I'm not advocatin' bein' a voyeur or anythin', but ye should actually see what she's up to. She's got a reputation."

“Oh...”

He chuckled a little.

“Oh, I see.”

Everything had clicked into place.

“Perhaps I should leave her to have her privacy. I wonder if I should think about using some Charms so that she has more of it. She’s probably unaware that I can overhear.”

"Am I wrong?" he asked, chuckling.

"Oh..."

He recalled the moment when Cherry had walked into the carriage when he and Hazel were... intimate. There was something very definite in her eyes that day. Like she knew exactly what she wanted.

"Hmm. I'll do a few charms. I'm sure Hazel would feel uneasy otherwise." He smiled at him.

James patted Louis on the arm. "Yer so innocent sometimes, Lou Lou," he chuckled.

"Yeah, seems like a nice thing to do. Any other concerns ye want me to clear up?"

"That's very kind of you," he said, beaming. It wasn't to say James wasn't usually thoughtful, but he had other things on his mind usually.

"I suppose the other thing is Hazel... and what happened at the party. We are meeting up tomorrow to talk about it. I'm still unsure as to how Hazel is feeling, and I'm uncertain as to what really triggered it."

He really was naive.

"Ye should know this now before ye leave Hogwarts, but broads are very competitive. Though they do wear makeup and all that stuff to impress blokes, it's mainly to tell other broads that they're prettier than 'em or whatever. Dumb, superficial shit. Took me a while to, er, understand what went down, but I think Hazel considered Malfoy a threat."

Whew, it felt weird playing the lecturer/advice giving role. That was more his aunt's thing.

"Hmm..."

Someone like Louis couldn't comprehend competitiveness anyway.

"Well, it seems quite a few people got hurt by it. Do you think there is anything I could have done to handle the situation a bit better?"

Scratching his neck, James grimaced. "Er, not really, 'cause them broads won't listen. Yer just stuck in the middle of it."
