final countdown (carina)

Louis had been helping out on his Uncle Ron's stall for the New Year's celebration. As his Uncle worked at Weasley's Wizard Wheezes; a lot of the products were either fireworks or novelty things, but they were all very loud and all very popular. Having worked for a good hour, however; Louis was getting a little tired from standing. He and his Uncle Ron sat together for a bit, drinking butterbeer.

"I still haven't seen Carina," He told Ron, sadly. He'd already filled him in on the fact that he had a girlfriend, but he neglected to mention that she was Draco Malfoy's daughter. It wasn't on purpose: he just didn't think it was necessary to say her full name.

"Maybe she's here with her sister?" He went on, thoughtfully.

Carina was walking around the festival looking at the things the vendors had for offer. She came across the Weasleys Wizard Wheezes table and smiled. When she got closer she saw that Louis was there and made her smile even more, "Fancy finding you here."

"Carina!"

He almost spilt his drink everywhere getting up so fast. He wanted just to kiss her then and there, but he thought he better not in front of Ron. It was a bit risque. Instead, he hugged her, and gave her a kiss on the cheek.

Still holding her waist, he turned to his Uncle. "Ron, this is Carina. Carina - Ron Weasley."

Out of all his nieces and nephews, Louis was probably the one that he connected with the least. He'd heard that other students at the school called him 'the boring Weasley', so Ron was slightly sympathetic in that way. The kid seemed to have quite thick skin though: he went about life as though every, simple moment was an absolute pleasure.

Carina, however, looked very different. In fact, she looked like the sort of girl who was going around saying that Louis was 'the boring one'. He knew now that she was Draco Malfoy's daughter, having seen his kids a few times over the years. Was Louis sure about this?

"Er... nice to meet you," was all he could really manage.

Carina blushed a bit when Louis kissed her cheek. When he introduced her, she immediately knew who he was. She had heard her father mention him through out her life a few times. Though he often referred to him as Weasel or Weasel King. She gave him a polite smile and nodded, "Nice to meet you, too." She then turned to Louis, "Are you working?"

Louis seemed rather content with their meeting, as he was smiling.

"I'm having a little break. Do you want some butterbeer?" He asked, pouring her some from the keg they had from the Three Broomsticks. "This is the Weasley's Wizard Wheezes kiosk. We're selling things from the joke shop. The sparklers are quite popular, do you want one?"

Again, without waiting for her to answer, he went to get her one. Leaving her briefly with Ron.

He wished that Hermione was here. She could usually be diplomatic with anyone, no matter what their age. He realised Carina was just a kid, but Draco was just a kid too. And he was a right git when he was one.

Typical, though. She didn't seem very friendly.

"Is your Dad about tonight?" He asked, trying not to sound too sour.

Carina giggled softly when Louis handed her the drink and she sipped it, "Sparklers? Those are the ones on the stick right? And it lights up?" She didn't understand much about fireworks. She smiled as he went to get her one. He was so cute. When she was spoke to by his uncle, she turned to look at him, "Not sure, really. I haven't seen him."

"... I better go back to minding the stall. See you."

He nodded, smiled a little, and called an early end to his break. There was something about talking to Draco Malfoy's kids that he didn't really like. Why should he try to be nice to them? He didn't like Draco, and never would entirely.

Louis returned to find Carina alone. That was sort of strange, but Louis shrugged it off. He smiled, and handed a sparkler to her.

"It never goes out until you put it in water, and it doesn't give off any heat at all. So it can't burn you, or catch fire!" He wanted to know exactly what magic went into that, but he supposed he'd never know. Even the Weasley's Wizard Wheezes had secrets from their own family members! "You can also draw things in mid-air, and they hang around for a few minutes. Look."

He demonstrated by drawing a heart in front of her, and smiled as it lingered in the air.

Carina nodded when Louis uncle left and waited for Louis to return. She didn't know why but she got the feeling his uncle didn't really like her. Carina took the sparkler and smiled, "It's so cute how you get so excited." She kissed his cheek and began to draw in the air with the sparkler. She drew their initials and hearts among other things, "These really are great."

Louis beamed.

"Aren't you excited for the new year as well?"

He slid his arm around her waist, and pulled her closer to him.

"I always find after Christmas and New Year's though, people get a little down in the dumps. I suppose it's because they're thinking about the bigger picture. I don't really get like that though."

Carina nodded, "Yeah I'm rather excited." She was excited for the new year. But at the same time she was a bit upset that Louis would be leaving Hogwarts that year. "I'm just... Gonna miss you." She knew it was inevitable, but it still sucked. She smiled when he pulled her close and kissed his nose.

"Why? I'm not going anywhere..."

He didn't catch onto what she really meant there.

"You're graduating, Lou." Carina said biting at her lip. She sighed softly and wrapped her arms around him.she rested her head on his chest and tried to think of the right words, "I don't know. It just sucks."

"Oh, yeah..."

Carina was only in her fifth year. They certainly wouldn't see each other so often. He hadn't really thought about it before, but it was sort of sad to think about. Louis felt a surge of optimism though, despite it all:

"Try not to think about it too much, we still have half a year together. And when I have left Hogwarts, we can still meet up whenever there is a Hogsmeade weekend. I'll meet with you whenever you are free." He squeezed her side reassuringly.

Carina tried to be honest about the situation, but it was hard. She was so used to being around Louis almost every day now. It was going to be hard for her when he was gone. "Every weekend?" She knew every weekend was alot to ask, as he would probably be busy with University studies and his internship. She looked up at him and sniffled a bit as she felt the tears try to start forming.
