once upon a time (open/multi)

It was shortly after Jerome's birthday, but he hadn't really celebrated it. It seemed a shame, as he had more friends this year, so perhaps they'd felt let down by him not organising anything. Everyone knew that he wasn't the type to throw a party, as those always seemed to get out of hand - no matter how hard you tried to keep everything low-key and alcohol-free...

He'd read in the Prophet that the cinema was doing a showing of some animated classics, so he'd sent a crystal message last Thursday about meeting up at the weekend and seeing them together. Some of the invitees he didn't know extremely well, but he'd invited them anyway knowing they'd probably enjoy the films. It was just nice to get out and get lost in another story for once.

Jerome was in the lobby of the cinema, having purchased his tickets and was now considering which popcorn to get.

"Maybe we should just get a large one of each?" he suggested to someone who'd turned up.

Eating some of the popcorn, Cherry glanced over at Lien placed it closer between them so it was easier to share.

Sierra moved a bit to the side as Thalia scurried passed them. ”im okay now… sorry I kind of snapped at you.” she said, her cheeks flushing a bit as she remembered running away from him and snapping at him not to follow. ”nothing to worry about. We should get back to the show.” she hoped that he would just let it drop. She didn’t want to ruin the whole afternoon. She smiled a bit at him in hopes that maybe things could go back to normal after this. ”it’s really sweet that you were so worried about me…” she blushed even more as she said it then turned away to try to hide it and started towards the screening room again.

Mackenzie pouted a bit more but buzzed into Tiernan to watch the movie. Just as she started to relax a bit, her chair was whacked causing her to spin around, "Watch it!" She didn't care if it was some old cranky wizard or not. She would not be spoken to like that.

Jerome didn't think she had anything to apologise for, and she was reassuring him that there was nothing to worry about...

And yet he kept shooting her worried glances. If someone had hit her with a spell, like McLaggen, who was it, and for what purpose? Who would want to curse a sweet girl like Sierra? As much as he wanted to ask her more questions, he thought it was best not to for the time being.

"Of course I was worried! I thought you were seriously hurt," he insisted, following her. Maybe he could ask Thalia about it later? Then again, she seemed keen to push him out as well.

Returning to the room, he noted that everyone was back to normal, more or less. Waiting for Sierra to take her seat first, he plopped down next to her again. Cinderella was on her way to the ball, he noticed. Hopefully that would cheer up Sierra.

"Right. Not being funny."

He was actually watching the fairy godmother scene.

"But if some old bint appeared and started sayin' she was ya fairy Mum, wouldn't ya have more fuckin' questions. I mean, Cinders is a muggle, yeah?"

"Maybe she's a squib," he yawned, kissing Mackenzie.

Lien overheard McLaggen and MacKenna's discussion. It may have been two morons being moronic, but he couldn't help but consider McLaggen's answer.

What if Cinderella was a squib.

She'd known about magic, was forced to live with her non-magical step-Mother who treated her like an outcast, and kept her far away from the likes of magical society. Was Cinderella a narrative on how cruelly squibs were treated in times gone by?

He was desperate to relay this theory to Cherry, but she was really enjoying the film as it was. He realised this was probably a big thing for her.

Lien rested his hand on top of hers and smiled.

Okay, now Sierra felt a little bad. She hadn’t been seriously injured by any means but she had still run out of there like she was. But she couldn’t let everyone see her like that! And Thalia seemed to be just as shaken by it as she was so maybe she wasn’t completely overreacting? She sighed. She had just wanted this to be a fun day and now it seemed like someone had come along and messed it all up. And all she kept doing was making it worse. She couldn’t let whoever had cursed her ruin everything!

”I didn’t mean to worry you.” she just couldn’t let him see her like that! What would he have thought? She already knew she had zero chances with him but he would never even be able to look at her again if he had seen her like that.

She walked with Jerome back to the screening room and took her seat, smiling a bit at him when he sat back beside her. At least he didn’t seem too upset with her. She was glad for that. Then she looked back to the movie screen in time to see Cinderella all dressed up and heading to the ball. She smiled a little more as she watched her get there and meet her Prince Charming.

Cinderella was a lot better than she remembered it being, especially now that she knew how sanitized the Disney films were to be family-friendly instead of including every gory detail from the original fairytale. At least she didn't have to worry about changing diapers or dealing with the screams of her younger siblings; it seemed like most people in the theater at least knew how to be quiet when watching a movie.

When Lien's hand touched hers, Cherry blushed and froze slightly, having not expected that.

Msckenzie giggled at parts of the mlvie until she was distracted by Tiernan and his affection. She would never object though. She kissed him back smiling as she did so, "You know I love you, right?" She whispered softly to him.

Rose had completely frozen while all of this had happened. Still, she wasn’t sure how to process it all!

Scorpius was kind of dazed during the whole thing. He hadn't gotten alot of sleep last night but refused to disappoint rose by not showing up to the group outing. He put an arm around her shoulder once everything settled down and smiled at her, "You didn't get hurt did you?" He asked, exhaustion evident in his voice.

Rose snapped out of it when Scorpius put his arm around her. She blinked as if trying to figure out if it was all just some dream or something. Apparently it wasn’t. She gave Scorpius a small smile and leaned into him. ”no, I’m not hurt. Just surprised.” she laid her head on his shoulder. ”you sound tired…” she said, concerned.

Scorpius chuckled and nodded, "Yeah I was up late working on my potions essay. But I didn't want to miss this and have you be upset with me." He said kissing her forehead, "I promise I'll sleep tonight."

”I wouldn’t have been upset. I am glad you came though.” she didn’t want him to think that she was demanding or something but she was happy to get to spend the day with him. ”are you sure?” she didn’t want to keep him up just to spend time with her if he needed sleep.

He froze, looking at her.

Oh boy.

"Er... really?"

Really? That was not the reaction she expected from him. She felt a little panicked before she decided denial was her best path of choice, "Oh my God you really thought i was serious?" Her laugh was obviously fake but maybe we wouldn't be able to tell that. She shoved his arm playfully and kissed him again, "You're so gullible."

Marilyn watched the film with her mouth wide-open, huddling close to her boyfriend. Now she knows her couple's costume for Halloween!

"Wadeyyyyy, can we go as Cinderella and her Prince Charming?"

Mackenzie spun around and glared again, "Hit my chair one more time and I'll shove that cane so far up your arse you'll be using it for a tongue." She then turned back around and started pouting again.
