Over the weeks, a part of James had always wondered if seeing Atticus was the right thing to do; of course, he ignored those thoughts as he enjoyed somebody wanting to nurture him in a way everyone else in his circle wasn't. There were frequent occurrences of post-nut clarity, and he was never actually able to envision himself sleeping with Atticus, but he had to ride out the high he got from being petty towards Alayna. It'd become one of his goals to piss her off to display that he was in an excellent position since the aftermath of the dance.

He wasn't.

Jerome forcing him to get detoxed at the threat of receiving detention forced him to confront his second thoughts about the entire arrangement. As he figured he'd never be able to get with Lien, due to him being 100% heterosexual, he needed to focus on someone else. If he was lucky, those feelings for Lien would began to fade.

They didn't.

Before entering the kitchens, James forced down a potion to curb withdrawal symptoms; magic made this a LOT easier to deal with. If he was smart, he would've stolen a couple of those potions in those first few days of hiding. Oh well.

He had to stop avoiding difficult situations. How was he supposed to be a good father if he couldn't help his kid work through them? He'd never forgotten Atticus' comment about him being a loser for wanting to be actively present in his child's life. It was like the entire school wanted him to be a deadbeat.

It hurt.

He walked inside and tried to smile at Atticus. "Hey," James greeted softly.

"It's fine. You're not being insensitive."

He smiled at her. A wave of annoyance came over him: James had just wanted to upset his sister by sleeping with him. What was with him? He was such a cold bastard!

"He admitted that he was sleeping with me to get to you. Then he said he regretted everything. I didn't think it would hurt as much as it did."

He creased his brow.

"And you know what the most messed up part is? I bet he doesn't even care about it right now. He's just right onto the next thing. Because that's what he does. Suddenly he's into this, he's bored with that, he's done doing that. Such a prick."

She smiled at him and put a tea kettle on the stove top. She looked at him in shock at what he said, "What the actual mental fuck? That's so behind messed up. What the fuck is wrong with him!?" She was pissed off. James had used her brother to fuck with him. Oh, she was going to get her revenge for sure. She hated the indecisive dick hole, "You deserve so much better than him. And you will find someone so much better than him in time."

He shook his head.

"It's okay. It's not like I loved him or anything."

Finding someone better would happen, he supposed, but he couldn't get over the audacity right away. It could've gone so much smoother. But James just wanted to insult him.

"He is a very messed up person, Alayna. Always has been."

Alayna nodded in agreement, "That he is. But fuck him. You're better than him. Always will be." The tea kettle went off and she got up to pour them both a cup. She made them to both of their likings and handed him his, "Here you go." She let it sit for a moment before taking a sip, "I'm just glad we can get back to normal. Now we can even trash talk him together." She loved the bond over gossip and talking shit about a mutually hated person, "He's not even that cute. And was he even any good?" She asked with a look of disgust

"I thought it was great sex. But it did get a little samey towards the end, and I could tell he wasn't really into it. So I wasn't into it either. I'm not going to fuck a zombie."

He rolled his eyes.

"When I said he wasn't my type, I wasn't lying. He isn't typically what I go for. I don't think I was either."

He laughed, enjoying talking with her like this again.

"Even if he did start dating Lien. (But he is completely straight.) He'll probably end up ditching him too in the end. Because no one, or no thing is ever good enough for James bloody Potter. Like... Oh, I'm on drugs. Now I don't like drugs. Now I'm back on the team! Now I don't care about the team. Now I'm back into music. Oh now I'm sober. Just calm down and shut up."

He laughed.

Alayna groaned and fake gagged, "Gross. Really just, blegh." She wished she knew a bit of what he meant. But the sex with Ptolemy was just fantastic. He always kept her on or curling her toes. "I didn't really think he would be your type. I liked the idea for you and Lukas. I thought he would have suited you well. But he's poking Copeland now." She said with a look and a shake of her head. She seethed at the idea of him dating lien. Not because she still had feelings, none other than hatred. But because the idea of him being happy pissed her off. "He's fucking bipolar as hell. Like pick a lane, stay in the lane for more than five miles. Thanks."

"Sorry. That was probably too much information."

He put his hand on top of Alayna's, and gave it an affectionate sort of squeeze.

"I can't believe you're all the way in the dungeons now," he said, thinking of how much more difficult it would be, being literally two opposite ends of the castle. "Perhaps I could get resorted into Slytherin..." It was doubtful. Slytherin was probably the house he suited the least. "Yeah, that's probably not going to happen..."

He thought back to his brief time with Lukas. "Lukas is nice, but I don't know. I'm looking for something else."

Alayna laughed and looked at her brother, "I'll just get you back at a random unknown time with some piece of information about me and Ptolemy." She said returning the squeeze of her hand, "I know right. But I actually love it. I'm thriving in Slytherin in a way that I was held back in Gryffindor. I feel comfortable there." She giggled at the thought of her brother getting resorted, "I don't think so. You're definitely a Ravenclaw." She was a bit confused, "Lukas was nice. So what are you looking for?"
