creature lore

Below are all of the current playable creatures on RUTH. More may be added overtime if there is demand or for plot purposes.

angels

There is a divine plan, and even the Angels of the heavens don't know why it has to be. Seers are those who get glimpses of this divine plan, and they are the only ones in existence who can. But the Angels: they help to carry it out, all the while protecting the universe and its inhabitants from the corruption of the demons.

An Angel is essentially an ethereal being that once lived, but came to heaven on death and demonstrated goodness and judgment enough to be granted wings. Sometimes it can get quite political up there: there are ranks amongst the Angels, with the Arch Angels being the closest to the Almighty. It is quite rare that an Angel will descend from heaven and go to Earth, and usually, it is to protect mankind directly by blending in with their society. They are empaths and have healing abilities, alongside their natural predisposition of aiding those in need.

When an Angel has instruction to go to Earth, they can stay for a short period or for longer ones. Usually when they descend, they have to make an effort to decide what they are going to look like: which gender they will assume, and so on. Only when Angels are on Earth do they take complete human form. Their wings are hidden, but they can show them if they trust you enough. Usually, though, most Angels need to remain undetected of their true selves.

You can usually tell when an Angel has been on Earth for a long time. Angels don't actually have to do human things like eat or sleep, but to blend in they indulge in these as frequently as a human would. Over time, they begin to develop likes and preferences for food, can consume and enjoy the effects of alcohol, and can appreciate worldly pleasures such as art or science. They gain human-like interests that go beyond their instinct to just maintain balance and goodness. Eventually, they are able to feel love, guilt, or regret.

The Angels you will play on RUTH will be ones that have come to Earth, but they may be at varying degrees of acclimatisation. For example, one that has only been there for a few days may struggle with the concept of eating a tasty meal or why they would read a book. Those who have been on Earth for years will be more human-like.

Angels are immortal and cannot be killed by anything other than Demons. If they misbehave (go against the divine plan, do anything considered 'pretty bad') and kill others themselves (they can technically by 'muggle means')... they could be clipped of their wings (refer to our section on Demons).

    Abilities/Characteristics

  • Empathy
  • Healimg
  • Immortality
  • Age Negration

demons

Demons are either Fallen Angels, or those who had repeatedly sinned during their living existence. Like Angels, all Demons were human once then deceased; but their identities and memories of being human are abolished. Fallen Angels are those of higher ranks, while sinners make up the lesser population of Hell. All Demons serve Satan, who generally wishes to disrupt and cause chaos to the Almighty; provoking mankind into wrong-doing so they will serve him in the afterlife.

The Demons usually lurk about the recesses of Hell plotting revenge on the Almighty, but every so often a Demon will surface onto Earth to do Satan's bidding. Notorious examples are the seven princes who each embodied one of the deadly sins that plague mankind.

    7 princes

  • Lucifer - Pride
  • Mammon - Greed
  • Asmodeus - Lust
  • Leviathan - Envy
  • Beelzebub - Gluttony
  • Satan - Wrath
  • Belphegor - Sloth

They have the ability, especially if they're one of the seven princes, to plant thoughts into someone's mind. One skilled in Occlumency may be able to dodge these attacks.

What is it like when you encounter a demon in person? Most, if not all, of the time, they have a chilling aura to them even in the most benign of situations. Even when they are on Earth to do Satan's bidding, they have to be careful. They are notoriously good at killing that it is natural to them; however, they can't manage to do friendly fire to another demon without repercussions. On the other hand, if a demon gets killed, they can say goodbye to the afterlife. Their soul and everything about them will cease to exist.

    Characteristics

  • Semi-immortal (Lives forever but can be killed)
  • Killing Machines

    Abilities

  • Combustion Inducement
  • Thought Manipulation
  • Can metagame a bit (picking up on feelings, thoughts, emotions)
  • Human Mimicry
  • Possession (can only do this for a short duration)

nymphs

In ancient Greek mythology, these beings were connected to the gods and seen as mini-deities so to speak. They are frequently depicted as young maidens intrinsically connected to nature and were worshiped for bringing fertility and beauty to the lands they occupied. As the world became increasingly more modern and industrialized, their homes vanished.

Nowadays, they blend in with plain, regular humans except that when you look at or pass by one, you may wind up with an otherworldly feeling almost as if you're unable to believe that's a living person. Ethereal, akin to veela, nymphs still hold their innate yearning for nature. This manifests in being unusually into plants, water, fresh air, etc. They may end up as the overly enthusiastic global warming protester down the street. They may end up as your neighborhood botanist who seemingly knows everything about plants.

Contrary to popular belief, nymphs are located just about anywhere on Earth. Globalization over the past millennia has allowed for the population to grow and, relatively speaking, flourish overtime.

Most, if not all, nymphs today are all descended from the ones written about in ancient times.

    CHARACTERISTICS/ABILITIES

  • Enhanced Beauty
  • Enhanced Senses
  • Limited control over nature (Diluted somewhat overtime when mixing with humans occurred)
  • Decelerated Aging (Mortal)

vampires

Vampires are commonly known for being immortal creatures of the night, which isn't a common misconception at all. It is possible for one to potentially be out in the sun, but it'd require a bunch of sunscreen, a parasol, and many layers of clothing. Many don't find the effort worth it, so they mainly stay nocturnal when it comes to outdoor wanderings spending the majority of their time indoors. The wealthy vampires are able to afford jewelry specially made to let them walk in the sun. However, such belongings are very rare to where the common vampires are unable to buy such possessions. Due to their nocturnal nature, they mainly run businesses such as nightclubs allowing them to make a living while not exposing who they are. They are able to turn people into vampires whether accidentally or purposely, which could be with or without consent, simply by sticking their fangs, which secretes a special venom used to transform others, into their neck. When one is turned into a vampire, they are asleep for 1-2 days before the changes take full effect. Vampires can also be born; however, in the case of part-vampires, it is mainly determined by the father.

Diet

Vampires mainly rely on blood for nutrients, however, they are able to consume some meat, mainly very rare steak. While blood is the staple of a vampire's diet, they can get their blood from many sources: animals (though animal blood will not give them all the nutrients that they need), blood bags (may lack nutrients because of age), and fresh out of the vein from a human (this is the best for the vampire to keep up their strength, but it is frowned upon). To prevent extreme blood-thirst, vampires must consume blood a couple of times a month.

Appearance

Vampires look like humans in appearance with slightly paler skin. They have fangs that they can retract at will which allows them to blend in with human beings that walk the street. When they are in extreme blood lust, they have bloodshot red eyes. When a mortal is turned into a vampire, they retain their appearance with the noted characteristics previously mentioned. There are a few vampires whose eyes turn black when experiencing hunger, but that is usually a phenomenon for born vampires.

weaknesses

Vampires are weak when it comes to Christian imagery, so they avoid churches and religious sites as much as possible, but being around those will just merely drain them of energy. A wooden stake and holy water could easily kill a vampire. Over time, they became more resistant to garlic and is able to consume and be around it; consuming garlic can give them stomach problems, but it isn't anything major as long as the dosage isn't too much.

    Full Vampire Characteristics

  • Enhanced Senses
  • Semi-Immortality

    half-vampire characteristics

  • Decelerated Aging
  • Enhanced Senses (Lesser than full vampires)

Soulmates & Twin Flames

In a twist of instincts, vampires actually possess the feeling/ability to have soulmates and/or twin flames, unlike werewolves. Half-vampires, too, are affected by it to a slightly lesser degree. They usually come in the form of a vampire's main blood source due to the delicate nature that comes from feeding as a lot of trust has to be involved. Soulmates are much more common than twin flames due to the fact one can have numerous within their lifespan and are able to take on more roles than blood source as they may be friends, family, etc. Twin flames are considered to be rarer to find due to the sheer amount of people on the Earth. Twin flames are most associated with being a vampire's blood source as unlike the blood of others, the blood of a twin flame wouldn't taste like iron and would be more appetizing compared to the blood of other people. One is considered to be very lucky if they ever manage to find their twin flame, especially as the pull towards them from instinct would be very strong. (Before deciding on a soulmate/twin flame plot, check to see if it's okay with the other person first.)

The Circle of the Crone

The Circle of the Crone is a loose faction of vampires who are the rabble-rousers, seeking to create whatever change they wish to see in the world through any means necessary, especially violence. These people are not brought together by ideology though, but rather by methodology. Not every member of the Circle of the Crone is a raging brutes though, many of them know the time and place for their violence, but the connecting factor between them and the more obviously violent member’s of the faction are that they both revel in the violence when it comes around.

Examples of Cruac Rituals

Of note, like spells, not every member of the Circle of the Crone knows every ritual and this is not a comprehensive list. This is more to show the power level of each rank of ritual.

    Small Rituals

  • Making yourself seem more mortal and beautiful
  • A special type of blood divination
  • Turning your blood into poison

    Medium Rituals

  • A single night warding from getting staked in the heart
  • Giving yourself a maw of flesh tearing teeth
  • Make a victim fall in love with you, much in the same way that love potions do.

    Large Rituals

  • Moving someone’s soul so they are possessing a beloved object of theirs
  • Becoming a peak predator, that those of low willpower around you puts themselves into vulnerable positions
  • Forcing a soul back into it’s freshly dead corpse, with your flesh rotting away for each day that they walk around again.

Mandragora Garden

A garden made up of plants fed with vampire’s blood; these plants take on some characteristics of their chosen vampire, and help both defend their vampire’s home from invaders while the vampire is away, and help them in the casting of their rituals. If eaten, each Mandragora garden will have a slightly different taste to it, being influenced by the vampire whose blood is being fed to the plants.

veela

Veelas are creature reminiscent of Sirens in Greek mythology. They are considered to be very beautiful, with their looks enabling them to charm humans. That charm, though, has a drawback as the Veela aura has a tendency to attract unwanted attention from the simple minded. It is believed that they have their own magic that doesn't involve the use of a wand. When Veelas get angry they can turn into a being that resembles Harpies and can launch fireballs from their hands. Those who are especially in control of their emotions can produce the special blue flame of theirs called passionfire. Their hair can be used as wand cores which are mainly used in heirloom wand. All of these traits are less prevalent in half-Veela, though they still do show up in female half-Veela. It is unknown though, if Half-Veela can make a full transformation.

Veela’s socially tend to stay within the Veela Conclave, a territory of their own, the location is only known to those born there. While the societal structures are one of the many secrets that are kept about this place, it is widely regarded that Veelas who chose not to live in the conclave tend to have found something in the outside world that fascinates them and gives them purpose.

werewolves

Werewolves are affected by lycanthropy, which is only spread by the bite of another werewolf. Under the influence of the full moon, the human undergoes changes to their physical and mental condition, becoming a werewolf. They are still humanoid in appearance with dense hair that covers their bodies, looking 'wolf-like' but there are several major ways to tell apart werewolves from wolves.

Werewolves have increased strength, can heal minor cuts, and are faster than the average human. They can relieve the symptoms of their turning on the night of the full moon by drinking wolfsbane potion. However, this potion is particularly tricky to brew and not all werewolves will have access to it.

Guilds

WOLVES OF STEEL is a guild primarily composed of blacksmiths. However, any merchant can join as long as they have been invited by one that's already a member. For the most part, they have no political goal besides trying to end werewolf discrimination in the workplace. Their primary focus is bonding over the struggles of having lycanthropy and helping each other's business.

LycanARTopy is a guild, like the Wolves of Steel, composed of a particular occupation. In this case, it's filled with artists of all sorts. Their common cause is to bring awareness to the struggles of werewolves through art. With no political leaning, they usually don't deal with much bad blood.

Archangels of the Sephiroth is more of a secret society and isn't exclusive to werewolves. It was founded decades ago during the First Wizarding War by an angel and a werewolf who frequently protested against the various discriminatory policies against werewolves put out by the Ministry. With very little information out there about it, most knowledge is merely speculation. Such speculation includes the practicing of rituals and, at one point, possibly having an alliance with the Death Eaters.

Can't find a guild to fit your werewolf into? No problem! Just talk to an admin with your idea for a guild (make sure to provide a name and the general description for it) and it'll be added!
