the 7 mysteries of ilvermorny
The Seven Mysteries of Ilvermorny is a legend that has expanded centuries, with no one actually being able to solve them. Countless students, Professors and even other adults from outside the school walls have investigated and wondered about them. Some have even grown obsessed by solving them, and some have grown close to the answer. It's unknown as to whether the original founders even know their answers.
1) Hidden Cave
There is rumoured to be a hidden cave somewhere around Fairy Spring that could have some secret way of uncovering it. People have devoted hours to exploring the area, performing various enchantments, and some have even invented gadgets to try and find its location. No one has yet been successful.
2) Locked Chamber
In the basement of the main castle there is a locked chamber that no one has been able to enter. When someone looks through the keyhole of that room, however, they have seen everything ranging from simple store cupboards to luxurious spas, piles of gold or the secret to everlasting life. Everything about this room is a mystery: how to get in, what it contains, why it is there and if the founders knew themselves.
3) Snakewood Tree
Following the battle and demise of Gromlaith Gaunt, Isolt Sayre buried her Snakewood wand in the soil as she wanted to put all her childhood memories of her wicked Aunt to rest. The wand grew into a tree, and several times there have been attempts to cut it down for its wood. But any attempt made, the tree just grows back again, and the parts taken away disappear. The tree has grown immensely through the years as it can't be pruned or trimmed back at all. It's a phenomena that has stumped many wizards.
4) Twisted Corridor
The fourth floor of the school has the twisted corridor: a corridor that rotates 180 degrees as you walk down it, until you're standing on the 'ceiling' at the opposite end. The only thing is - you feel as though you're standing the right way up! The rules of gravity seem to not apply, and whatever magic is causing it is unknown. At the end of the corridor is the Upside-down Room, with windows to the grounds. They all appear upside down from your perspective, but again, you're standing on what seems to be the floor - not the ceiling.
5) The Enchanted Forest
The real mystery here isn't the forest itself, but the boundary that surrounds it. No one has been able to get across that boundary, so it's a mystery of what's on the other side. You can see the trees move and walk around if you stand at the boundary, but you can't get close to them.
6) Treasure Trove
A rumour started about an underwater vault hidden in Azure Lake, containing a large treasure trove that could see anyone go from rags to riches. Several attempts have been made to dive deep enough down into the lake's waters, but they seemingly go on forever. Nobody has ever been able to reach the bottom, let alone discover an entrance to a vault.
7) Basilisk Remains
It is said that before Ilvermorny was built, the Basilisk remains were already there. They can be visited around the edge of the forest, on the grounds of Ilvermorny by anyone - but don't try to move them, as they're completely fixed in place. Some have made efforts to remove the pieces, but much like the Snakewood Tree - the remains disappear and return to their original spot. This area is a little creepy, but the students sometimes like going there around Halloween and creating stories about the mystery.
