Ministry Festive Formal ((Main Thread))

This year for the formal, the Ministry went all-out in decorations. It was to be one of the fancier galas in recent years as a treat to the general public that lacked Ministry connections. All sorts of silver and gold bulbs dangled from the ballroom's ceiling; the Christmas tree that adorned the location towered over everyone and everything. Sitting on top of the pine was a golden star that periodically let out light drizzles of snow. Spread throughout the room were a few tables covered in a tower of champagne glasses. On the stage was an unmanned orchestra playing jazzier versions of classic Christmas carols. It was only moments ago that the gala was kicked off with a momentous speech by the current Minister that welcomed all Ministry personnel domestic and foreign, their families, and every member of the magical community that decided to attend the night's festivities.

So far, it's been rather uneventful with the older Ministry workers talking amongst themselves.

As usual, Harrison was dressed in all black although he did sport some silver in the form of a bat-shaped brooch. Very goth of him. It was like he just came out of a bathroom for a Ministry (heh) concert. His wife was elsewhere in the room, so he approached one of the champagne tables grabbing a glass. He turned to somebody nearby and smiled. "Hello, it's good to see you. How are you?"

Hopefully, his children were behaving well...

Indigo was wearing one of his more stuffier suits (if that were possible). It was very slim-fitted, pale grey with a patterned shirt and a matching pocket square. He had his usual two-colour leather oxfords on, and part of his socks were showing underneath the ankle grazer length. His hair was plastered back with a slight quiff at the front, and he had covered himself with a lot of different colognes. Usually he didn't know where to stop where fragrance was concerned.

Taking a flute of champagne, he sipped it primly, and turned to the sound of a deep, masculine voice.

His face lit up when he saw Harrison, standing almost an entire foot above his own height. "Good evening, Mr Jetson. It's good to see you here, too." And he did seem genuinely pleased. "Who is here with you tonight?"

Atticus didn't know whether he should really be here so soon after the incident and recovering in hospital, but he was determined to gain a sense of normality. He wanted to get the joy of Christmas again, despite all the family drama now going on in the background. He cast his gaze around the room, feeling rather uncomfortable in his suit, wondering if there was a friendly face he could go to and talk with.

His hands were still shaking a little as an after effect of his Dad's curse, so he had them clasped together behind his back.

Realizing it was Indigo, he smiled. He dressed quite well for the occasion although he could've gone a bit lighter on the cologne. He took a sip of the champagne before moving a bit to the side for somebody else to grab a flute.

"You can just call me Harrison," he stated with a small chuckle before patting his back. "I meant to congratulate you on the promotion, but you know how crazy the auror office gets!" Indigo did look very dapper. "My wife and kids are here, but I'm not quite sure where they went."

"Can you believe that Nott prick?!" Odin suddenly boomed to some other Ministry member, oblivious to the level of his voice or the fact it could be heard at all. He thought he was talking at a relatively normal level. Taking his cigar out from his lips, he adjusted his shirt in annoyance, feeling absolutely ridiculous in it. At least someone had draped some tinsel around his neck so he could get away with looking formal. Tinsel was formal, right?

Merlin knows...

As usual, Edith was there to take notes, network, and get quotes and observations together for various articles about the gala that'd appear in coming editions of the Daily Prophet. She sported a gold strapless mermaid dress that clung to her silhouette. Sitting at one of the tables, she kept her eyes out for somebody that'd stand out. They would be her first interview subject of the night.

"Sorry... I keep forgetting. It feels strange to call my superiors by their first names..."

At what he next said, Indigo was flushing in delight.

"Thank you. I'm glad to be settled in the Department now, at least. Training has been quite intense."

He smiled at him.

"Oh, I see. I'd like to meet them. Particularly your son, it sounds like we would get along."

"Man this blows..."

It was SO boring. There were just a lot of adults standing around talking about work, and his Dad standing around talking about things he wasn't supposed to talk about. He was so damn embarrassing!

"Where's the food?" he groaned to himself, feeling that could be one single solace about this stupid thing.

"I've never been much for formalities," he chuckled. It was always weird hearing Auror Jetson and the likes that he eventually had to tell his colleagues to just refer to him by his name. They eventually got a hang of it, but it usually took the younger aurors a while to get used to it.

"It must be more precise than the auror training with how quickly those charms can backfire..."

Not everyone could handle memory charms well after all. At least with auror training, it was a mix of agility and being excellent at defense. Of course, it was important to be adequate in many subjects, but defense was especially emphasized.

"I'm sure Narks is around somewhere! Maybe he's hanging with Faye? They're always whispering about something at these gatherings..."

Dartagnan was standing alongside his brother, Aramis, and they were dressed very similarly. That wasn't at all on purpose, but when it came to formal wear there were very few options for men other than differences in colour. Dartagnan's tall, slender frame was clad in deep, bottle green fitted suit with a white shirt: Aramis was the same, but he wore dark blue. Both of their eyes were fixed on the ensemble of the room, but Dart looked slightly tremulous about it. Aramis looked bored, but every so often his gaze would lock and linger on someone who walked past.

"I wonder if there's going to be any dancing here..."

"I hope not," he replied irritably, as he was watching Harrison Jetson.

He'd known of him back in the days of the second wizarding war, and he looked just the same then as he did now. Aramis smirked. He wondered if anyone had actually clocked onto it yet. To him, it was plainly obvious.

"So far there's been an awful lot of lunches that I have been entirely wiped from my memory. The charm is extraordinarily complex, I was surprised that even at the Ministry there isn't that high regard for Obliviators like there should be."

He sniffed rather pretentiously.

"Of course, that isn't to discredit Aurors in any sense. They are certainly given the respect they deserve."

He just had to make that very clear.

"Ah. His girlfriend?"

"The Ministry's strange about some things. I don't know why they're not given more acknowledgement when they help enforce the Statute of Secrecy..."

If it wasn't for obliviators, there wouldn't be a Hogwarts Express. Harrison just didn't get it.

He nodded. "I understand. We're always given the most accolades outside of the Ministers. I suppose it's due to how we interact more with the public than other offices in the Ministry. Everyone knows they might have to talk to us at some point. That isn't the case with sports unless you work in the quidditch sphere..."

"I'm not sure if they're dating? Kids these days, always making that stuff so confusing!"

Carina loved to attend tthe formal events the ministry held. She often got to attend thanks to her father and this year was no different. She had on a long silver gown and her hair was up in curls.she loved the atmosphere around all the sophisticated adults. She noticed Dartagnan and walked over to him, "Hello Dartagnan."

Alayna didn't understand why Atticus wanted to attend this event, but he did, so now she was there, in a gorgeous gold dress looking for her brother. She didn't see him yet, but she did see Carina talking to that vampire boy. She frowned and continued to scan the room.

Indigo was positively beaming with pride when Harrison acknowledged the importance of his role. If only Hyacinth was around to listen to what he was saying.

"Oh absolutely, I couldn't agree more," he said, but didn't realise that he'd probably agree with Harrison even if he suggested blasting the moon out of the sky.

Something about him made him feel very warm and fuzzy inside...

"I don't really understand it either," he admitted, smiling at him.

He smiled at Carina as she approached, looking very pretty in her cascading, sparkling dress of silver. There were quite a lot of elements to it, and it made her look very grown up.

"Hello, Carina," he said, "You look beautiful."

Apparently he was very unembarrassed to say so.

"How did you know it was me, though?" he asked quietly, looking between himself and his brother. They looked very similar tonight, even their hair was the same.

Harrison had frequently heard murmurs about Indigo being pretentious, snobbish, stuck-up, but he didn't really see that side of him. If anything, he'd expect those kinds of tendencies from somebody his age. He knew he had his own pretentious moments as a young adult in the alternative scene. He was quite a gatekeeper.

"Back in my day," Harrison began, drinking the rest of his champagne flute. "If we were interested in someone, we'd ask to go out for a butterbeer. If they accepted, maybe we'd snog or more. If we liked each other enough, we went steady and that was that! These kids make it too complicated. What is a 'talking' phase? What does that mean?"

Despite his looks, he was an obvious magical boomer by the way he spoke. He enjoyed talking to Indigo quite a lot despite their generation gap. He wasn't as confusing as some of the youngins these days.

Seeing Carina was hanging around his brother, he smirked. Her blood was good. Dartagnan deserved to taste it for himself. Now it was just making that happen...

Anyway. That could wait.

He walked over to Harrison, briefly lingering about behind Alayna as he did. She smelled wonderful...

Jetson was talking to a blond boy who looked rather delectable. He wasn't looking at him though. "Good evening. Harrison Jetson, isn't it? I'm Aramis Lestoat."

As he rambled on more about the good old days to Indigo, Harrison tuned slightly to the other voice. Wasn't he a Lestoat? He stiffened at the sound of him.

"Yes, I am Harrison Jetson."

He didn't sound as casually as he did with Indigo.

Carina smiled when he ssaid she looked beautiful. She knew it was true, but she loved hearing it, "Thank you. You look very handsome as well, tonight." She tilted her head to the side and giggled a bit, "You may look the same but your auras and emotions couldnt be farther off. I'm not feeling anger and thirst and cravings when I'm near you like I am him." She said pushing a strand of blonde hair behind her ear, "The gift of an empath."

Alayna stiffened a bit when Aramis passed by her before rolling her eyes. She looked around wondering if Ptolemy intended to make an appearance. She hoped he did, it would make it quite easier for her to bear the event if he was there. She picked up a glass of champagne and sipped from it.

Pandora entered the ball room in a gorgeous one of a kind gold dress her father had bought her for the event. She walked down the stair case anand smiled as kept her head held high until she reached the bottom. She had spotted a few school mates of hers. She would get to them eventually.

Mackenzie stood away from the crowd, simply observing. She didn't really wish to interact with anyone. She didnt even really want to be there, but as a Riddle, she had to uphold appearances. So she put on the dress her mother had chosen for her and was waiting before actually beginning to socialize.
