Carina was a bit upset that no one had asked her to the dance. It was honestly unexpected. She watched as Alayna spent time with Lien and Pandora spent time with a bunch of other people. She shook her head and looked down at her shoes. She couldn't let it bother her. But it did. And that's what sucked.

After toying with James and seeing him escape the party early, Ptolemy had weaved around a little amongst the crowd. All the girls looked wonderful in their outfits, and it always seemed they made more effort than the boys in general. For example, what Potter was wearing? Courdroy should be burnt.

He found himself going back to the dormitory after a short while. Eventually he needed to be Perdita tonight anyway, for her voice, but he felt like changing earlier than planned.

Perdita had her blonde hair gathered and pinned into tumbling waves. The back of her silver dress was low, and showed off the curve of her waist. There was a long, white gold chain she wore as a necklace, but it hung down her back. Perdita wasn't recognised by anyone as she entered the dance, except perhaps Alayna.

She'd seen Carina Malfoy by herself. Although Ptolemy would have taken her to the dance as his partner, he had been more preoccupied with other things about the occasion.

"You're not on your own, are you?" Perdita asked Carina, smiling gracefully. Somehow it was more exciting approaching her as Perdita.

Carina looked up and smiled weakly at the blonde girl. She didn't recognize her at all. Was she new here? "yeah. I thought this one guy was going to ask me. But it never happened. My best friend would kill me if I skipped the dance all together." She pushed a strand of hair from her face" I'm Carina Malfoy. That dress is absolutely gorgeous."

"A complete waste of your time, then. You're better off without anyone than with him." Although she was sure Carina meant Ptolemy, this was just something that women said to one another.

"Hmm. I know who you are. But come on now," she put her hand on the small of her back, "Stand up straight. You're all slouched. Don't slump your shoulders just because of him. It's a waste of such a gorgeous dress."

She ran a line down her back, slowly.

"Straight. Like a broom is stuck down your back. Keep your shoulders back and your chest out. Show off how endowed you are there..." Perdita smirked at her. It was refreshing to be able to get away with saying these sorts of things girl-to-girl.

Carina chuckled and clasped her hands behind her back, "You're very nice." She said, blushing a bit. Her thoughts wandered to the conversation she had had with her sister. She looked the girl over, she had a nice face and her body was.... Wow. When she placed a hand on her back, she felt a tingle go up her spine and she straightened her posture, "I know I know. I just thought... I don't know. I thought something could happen. I don't know. Maybe I'm just stupid and he never thought that way of me." She dropped her jaw a bit at the comment of her chest, but was actually kind of pleased by it, "I don't know your name."

Was she blushing? At Perdita? It was utterly charming. She loved that. Perhaps she could have just as much power to beguile Carina as a woman. Perdita's eyes went cat-like as a smirk crossed her features.

"Maybe it doesn't matter. Maybe you were meant to come here alone, so that you could meet me. If you were with him, you would have been too preoccupied to give me any of your attention."

She smiled languidly at her.

"My name is Perdita," she greeted, feeling a sense of thrill from being able to introduce herself that way.

Carina smiled at her words, "Maybe so. That doesn't explain why you're here alone, though?" She was curious as to why the girl didn't have a date of her own. "We wouldn't want you not having any attention, would we?" She asked teasingly. "It's nice to meet you Perdita. That's an old name. Are your family purebloods?" She only knew purebloods to name their children such things.

"I have your undivided attention. That is plenty enough for me."

She wanted to stroke her hair. The way she looked at her was clear that she wasn't merely complimenting: Perdita was into Carina. Perhaps she was more into her as a woman than she was a man. Or perhaps Perdita would pave the way for them...

"That's right, if that wasn't at all obvious," Smiling at Carina, she touched her hair as though she was fixing it. But her touch lingered. "We're very similar, aren't we?"

"If my attention is all you seek then it's all yours." She said, with a small smirk. Maybe she should give it a try. Aquila said to keep her options open. So she was open. She moved a tiny step closer, just to test the waters. She smiled as Perdita stroked her hair, "how so, love?"

Carina had taken a step closer to her, there was a purr to her voice and a look in her eye that was never there with Ptolemy. Perdita looked taken aback for a moment. She wasn't used to that sort of reaction: one that made her feel the prey instead of the predator...

"I never thought you would be into women," she said, looking pleasantly surprised. "Aren't you just full of surprises?"

A smile spread widely across her face.

"Would you dance with me?" she asked gently, dropping her hand from her hair to her hand, and linking their fingers together.

"I'm full of many surprises if you stick around to see them all. I never thought I would be one to go for a woman either. But I've been... Questioning some things lately. Maybe it's just you. Maybe you're just very... Intriguing." She looked in her eyes and thought she recognized something for a moment. Something about the girl just drew her in. She took her hand in hers and smiled with a nod, "Of course."

Perdita smiled, taking her hand and leading her through to the dance floor, where a classic sort of song was playing. Immediately she assumed the position of the man, the lead, and put her hand on her waist.

"I have been questioning things a lot too," she confessed, but it wasn't about who she was attracted to. Of course, both Perdita and Ptolemy were attracted to women. "Such as who I am as a person. There are different sides to me. Perhaps I should embrace that, instead of trying to fill others' expectations of me."

She drew herself closer to Carina.

"You're not worried that others may talk about this?" she asked quietly.

Carina followed her and placed her hands on her shoulders, as if she would a man. The touch of her fingers on her waist made her tingle, she could lead, that impressed her. "I feel everyone has different parts to who they are as a whole. I would say do whatever makes you the happiest. Don't try to compromise to please others." She noticed she moved closer and smiled at her, "Let them talk. I don't care." She really didn't. She was happy in that moment. She didn't feel alone or rejected. She didn't feel like she was in comparison to anyone.

"I'll remember that..."

She seemed slightly bemused at Carina's philosophy there. She knew that Carina wasn't an airhead exactly, but she never expected that sort of wisdom.

"Perhaps you should follow your own advice as well. I know that you hold yourself back a lot. But you're very bold, aren't you?"

Her eyes looked to her lips, then back to her eyes again.

"As long as you don't care, I won't hold myself back..."

"It would do you well to do so." She said, a sparkle in her eye that wasn't there before. She felt like she could say anything around Perdita and would be the right answer. She didn't feel that often. She got called a dumb ditzy blonde all the time and it angered her. She was actually really smart. Just struggled sometimes with certain subjects. She felt attacked by the comment of holding herself back, "I mean. I guess yeah. Standing out and being the center of attention is really more Alaynas thing than mine. Alayna is my best friend." She bit her lip when she saw Perditas eyes linger over them

Perdita's eyes swept up to meet hers. She tried her best at a girlish giggle, but it sounded exactly like one of Ptolemy's laughs in a different octave.

"That's not what I meant, darling." She put her chin on her shoulder, and whispered to her ear. "Like when you spoke your mind to Louis that time. That wasn't holding yourself back."

She lightly kissed the spot on her neck, then drew back to her eye level.

Carina was taken aback by the laugh. Why did that laugh sound so familiar to her? She thought in it for a moment before pushing the thought aside. "L-Louis?" She asked, subconsciously looking around for the blonde, "That was a .... One time thing I think. I just got so tired of hai girlfriend and I just ... Exploded. I'm an empath. So after too much emotional intake, I just burst." But her words were cut off by a soft gasp as Perdita kissed a spot on her neck. Her nails dug softly into her shoulders as her grip tightened.

"So was that reaction from feeling how much I want you, or just from a little kiss?"

Perdita was becoming aroused by her, and it was quite a new feeling indeed. It felt so... multidimensional, compared to how Ptolemy became aroused. It wasn't so much primal, but sweet. There could be too much of a good thing here...

"Mm... you're really cute. I like that. I just feel like I could eat you up..."

Carina didn't know how to answer her question, "I'm not sure. Maybe a bit of both. But the feeling is mutual." And it really was. Carina was turned on due to Perditas words and actions. It was new. The idea of being with a woman, someone who might know how to please her for real. "Then what's stopping you?" She asked, a playful challenging tone in her voice, "There are many things we could eat."

She crossed her arms around her waist, pulling her close to her. Smiling languidly at her for a moment, Perdita closed whatever gap there was between them, and let her lips meet Carina's. It was a soft, but slowly sensual kiss.

When she started kissing her, she felt more like Ptolemy. It was a strange feeling. The roots of Perdita's hair was turning darker...

Carina felt herself melt in her arms when she kissed her. This was very... Different. But a good different. She was soft and gentle with the kiss, unlike boys who were sloppy and harsh. She felt her hands in her hair and reacted the same way, threading her own fingers into the dark roots of her hair. Wait a minute? Dark? She was a blonde, wasn't she? She puked back a moment and looked at her hair, "Um, should it be doing that?"

Her fingers snaking through his hair was giving him nice little tingles.

Wait - her. Her hair.

Yes, she was a woman.

But the more she thought about it, the more conflicted she felt. As she drew back feeling puzzled, Ptolemy's eyes were blinking at Carina. "Should what be doing... what?" Carina was looking at her hair. Perdita put her hands up and touched the crown of her head. The hair there felt coarser than the silky blonde.

She swore under her breath, in the most un-lady-like way imaginable.

"I... I think someone must have been playing about with my haircare potions. Jealous people, you know. They do frivolous tricks like that..." She rubbed at her scalp, as though that would help.

Carina looked into her eyes and blinked a few times before rubbing her own eyes. The punch was spiked. Maybe she was just drunk? She heard her cuss and raised an eyebrow, "Yeah I've been the victim of that a few times. One time, Ptolemy Rowle put blue dye in my conditioner. I was a Smurf for 2 months." She reached out and took her hand away from her head, just holding it. She looked into her eyes once more and focused, "You have very similar features to him you know? Your eyes are the same."

"I hardly know him," she said, and closed her eyes for a while, blinking slowly. Perdita's eyes rounded out again. The blue was brighter. All she had to do was concentrate, pull it together, and know exactly who she wanted to be right now. "But he sounds like a lousy wretch."

Insulting Ptolemy seemed to have some effect on Perdita, whose hair had now returned to blonde again.

She blinked sheepishly at Carina.

"I'm ever so sorry - I'm not feeling too well. Do you mind if we go to the bathrooms a moment?"

"He is at times. But other times he's a sweetheart. He likes to protect me." She said, thinking of Tolly. But then she shook her head, she wasn't here with Ptolemy. He hadn't asked her. She refocused on Perdita the pretty girl that made her night something amazing. She nodded and held out her hand, "Alright yeah. I need to check my makeup anyway." She was pretty sure her lipstick was a bit smudged
