CATastrophe ((Open))

He hadn't been sure he wanted another pet, not after Zhen had died from old age (for a ferret.) Yet, he knew that he had always appreciated his furry friend and would like another. He'd never been completely alone in his life and it was rather strange. Wandering down the rows of animals, he slowly read each tag and description unsure which creature would make itself home in his heart and put a bit of a salve on the hole left by his previous pet.

Stopping in front of a funny looking creature he read, "Puffskein." Who'd want one of those? Sure, it would be fun to toss about and it seemed by its card to be hard to kill, but still. He wanted something like his ferret who'd he'd play with and kept him company. He didn't just want a fuzzy ball to toss about. Maybe if Zhen were still alive he'd get it for her sake, for her to play with.

Maybe a cat? Or what was the thing that was like a cat but something else? Scrunching up his nose he thought maybe it was, "Sneezle? Sneed?" No, that's a sweater thing or something. He was sure it started with knead?

Carina was walking by a cabin when she heard someone speaking. She stopped to listen and giggle slightly "they're called kneazles. They're a part of the feline family." She said nodding at the boy " what's yours named? " She asked holding castiel, her own cat, in her arms. "They're a good pet to have. Just don't always get along well with other creatures and are extremely loyal to their owners"

"Kneazles!" Asriel happily exclaimed, glad that he'd been partially right. Nodding he soaked up what she said and smiled at the loyal to their owners part. His ferret had been that way and she didn't get along with some critters either. "I don't have one yet..." Yet being the operative word because he was thinking they were starting to sound pretty good. He had been given a bit of extra money to spend and he was sure that his father wouldn't begrudge him a pet.

Smiling, he wondered, "Want to help me pick one?"

Carina smiled at the young boy and nodded "sure. I'd be happy to help. The most important thing is to find one that you bond with. You can't force a connection with these creatures. Much like a wand, they have to choose you." She said in a soft tone as she approached the cage full of kneazles. She got down on her knees and looked at the furry animals "now lean down and put your hand in. Don't show fear. Or they will be afraid as well. Be confident. Some may run. But the one you're destined for will approach you." Carina explained having done her research on kneazles in Care of Magical Creatures.

Excited and happy that the girl said she'd help him, he listened raptly as she instructed him. Asriel nodded when told the animal had to choose him. Squatting down next to the nice teenager, he carefully did as told, putting his hand out. He knew from experience to allow dogs to come to him when he had his hand out for them to sniff so they knew he wasn't going to hurt them.

"Look!" he whispered excitedly as one approached after having a tumble with its litter mate. Eyes wide, he watched and tried not to feel too disappointed when it turned and seemed to have no interest in him. Shoulders slumping he didn't give up and just waited. A smile appeared again though when he felt the tickle of whiskers on his hand and couldn't hold back the giggle at the sensation.

"Is this what you had to do?" he asked when he turned his eyes away from the kneazle that was investigating his hand.

Pure delight at the thought that the animal chose him had him beaming. "Really?" he asked in wonder at her telling him how it was a male and would be good for him. Then his eyes widened as he nearly forgot that if he got new furry friend he'd have to get stuff for them too! Nodding eagerly, he stood up and went to look at the different items on display such as grooming equipment (even if cat's bathed themselves.)

Carina walked over to the counter and spoke in a hushed tone. She pointed to Asriel and nodded at something the employee said. She pulled out a bag of galleons and handed it to her "whatever he wants" Carina said in a final tone then walked back over to Asriel "need some help there, buddy?" She said grabbing a toy mouse from the shelf and looking at it

"I've never had a cat before," he confessed a bit lost. Curiously he wondered, "Are they too different from ferrets?"

Aside from species, they were both hunters and things right and self groomed. There were a lot of choices for him to choose from though! He did make sure to pick up the grooming kit. He knew that some animals liked to be brushed. His eyes were big as he looked at everything feeling just a bit overwhelmed even if he was still excited and bursting with joy. Remembering something, he asked the helpful teenager, "Can you animate the mice or do they come spelled like that? So he can learn to hunt that?"

"They differ a bit. They require certain levels of attention and care that differ from eachother." When he asked about the mice she pulled down two different ones "This one comes spelled already. This one you have to spell yourself. Why not just get both?" She suggested. It was on her bill after all and she wanted to make sure he and the kneazle had everything they could ever want. "Also, I know it sounds silly. But get a cat tree. Castiel loves his."

Taking the mice crom her he made sure to remember which one was which. Looking back and forth between the two he held up the spelled one. "I think I'll get this one for now. That way he can learn. And he'll have plenty of things to bat around at the school."

At the suggestion of a cat tree he nodded. Zhen had loved her tube maze and the perches and things. Cats he supposed weren't much different.

"Thank you." He stated sincerely. "You're really nice."
