it better be better this time (ashton)

It was evening time, around eight o'clock - curfew would commence at nine, where all the students needed to be back in their common rooms. Jerome was on duty that evening to make sure the students were shepherded to their quarters in time, and then past curfew to ensure no one was sneaking around after hours. Fortunately, this time, he was stationed on the first floor instead of outside in the sodding cold, wet, miserable weather. No doubt Burke's assignment.

He was idly walking down the corridor coming up to the Head Boy and Girl dormitories. When he arrived in line with a door marked Head Boy - Melanthius Burke, he couldn't help but pause. The prat himself may or may not have been inside at present. He may come bursting out from the door at any moment, or may approach from behind Jerome to retire for the night. Jerome was unperturbed by either scenario, however.

Let him see me, he thought.

Everything was rather quiet, though. His eyes moved to the name Melanthius Burke again. He still would have liked that name to be Jerome Estrada, no matter what he said about the position meaning less to him now. Of course he'd wanted to be Head Boy. He still wanted to be Head Boy. That would never change.

Ashton was returning from an evening flight that had to be cut early due to the rain. He walked through the halls with his broom thrown over his shoulders, dripping water onto the floor with every step. As he walked, he saw someone outside the head boys dorm. Was that.... "Estrada. What are you doing loitering outside burkes room? Are you two secretly in love with each other or some shite? I'll tell Amara you finally found love in someone besides her, mate."

Jerome heard squelching footsteps of someone who'd just come in from outside. Who would want to go outside in this weather? Certainly it wasn't Burke: he didn't seem the type. As he looked away from the sign on the Head Boy's door, he saw that it was someone arguably worse than Melanthius Burke.

And he had the nerve to say what he did.

"I was assigned patrol up here, you dolt," he grumbled, feeling his face flushing in annoyance. "Speaking of which, you should be heading down to the Slytherin dungeons now, instead of trailing mud up here." Although... he couldn't have picked a better place to get muddy and wet: right outside of Burke's room.
