prefect's carriage (open)

It was customary for all the prefects to meet in one of the larger compartments towards the front of the train: just to do a meet and greet and discuss anything about their role. Now that Louis was Head Boy, he and the Head Girl would be carrying this meeting of sorts. Once all the introductions were done with and they told the new prefects and their responsibilities, everyone was free to just chat with one another or go back to their friends if they wished. Those who were instructed to do patrols of the train were given set times to do so.

Louis felt like he should stay until the last had gone, however. He turned to Cherry, the Head Girl, and smiled. They hadn't really spoken casually before.

"How was your summer?"

Cherry was genuinely surprised when she got the letter about being Head Girl; her reputation for being a teacher's pet was definitely paying off more than she had expected. Now, she had a bunch of perks she didn't have before. Good way to spend her final year at least?

"Could've been better. My siblings are getting older, so I won't have to raise them for my parents once I move out."

Mackenzie still couldn't believe she had made perfect. She figured it was a mistake and she should go return the badge and stuff to the actual prefects. She stepped inside the compartment and felt a bit of relief to see louis there. she walked up to him and cleared her throat nervously, "This was sent to me. But there has to be some mistake. I'm not prefect material."

At first he didn't really know how to respond to that. He didn't know anything about Cherry's family, except for the fact that she was muggleborn, but perhaps her parents weren't able to look after the children? Either way, he smiled at her sympathetically.

"Oh I see, you have a few siblings then?"

Then, out of the blue, Mackenzie approached the two of them. Upon her clearing of the throat, Louis looked to her and was taken aback by what she had said. He chuckled in a good-natured sort of way. "Of course there isn't a mistake, Mackenzie. You are a good student and a sweet girl, so you're definitely prefect material." He beamed at her.

She nodded. "They probably would've had twenty more if nature didn't stop them..." Cherry was so glad to be going back to Hogwarts, even if it was her final year.

Cherry blinked as she saw Mackenzie stomp in. "We have no control over who's prefect. Maybe Professor McDonald would know?"

Mackenzie blinked a few times in shock at what Louis said she was really a prefect? She smiled and took a seat nodding at him, "I just didnt see anyone seeing me like that." She would have to make a mental note to talk to professor McDonald about why he thought she would be a good prefect. But she was proud all the same.
