Luna had been getting her first little bit of practice in for the year. She spent her summer touring with her uncle all the Quididtch stadiums getting ideas. She was ready and wanted to show off to Mackenzie who didn’t earn her spot as Captain in Luna’s book. She had her new Nimbus 3000 and began riding around the pitch she had Catalina in the stands watching her and helping her figure things out.

Cat tagged along everything she did, and was her best friend.

She looked at Catalina, “Are you paying attention?”

"Ugh, nah. I don't wanna deal with her. I dunno how anyone likes her. She's the least likable Riddle."

Matilda and Medea wanted to get into everyone's pants, but at least they were generally nice. He didn't know too much about Gabriella, but she was the most lowkey of the Riddle sisters.

James smirked when the topic returned to his broom. Proudly, he grabbed it from the wall and showed it off. "I got it a couple years ago, er. I've been ridin' it, but I never played a game on it..."

When Cat finally left them alone, he snorted. "Is she always like that when a bloke's tryin' to butter ya up?"

Luna had no clue how Mackenzie even managed to make the team. She wasn't all that good of a player, and didn't try as hard as the rest of the team. She had gave a bit of a shrug, "I don't know. She has a big head of confidence and she has Carina and Alayna, the unholy trinity." she commented. Or maybe it was Pandora, that friend group made no sense to Luna.

She had her friends and she valued they, yes they were rich, but they came from all sort of blood status, and that wasn't a determining factor in who was accepted. She was a little taken aback, "So you plan on playing a broom you never really rode in a game? You got to get to used it." she commented.

Safety was important, and she shrugged at her best friend. "She is very selective, and you know how a lot of guys are at Hogwarts. Louis and Ashton, the entire crew."

"...Why do ya think I came out here with my broom?" James wondered as his eyes scanned Luna. "Did ya think I came out here knowin' that you'd be here to rock my world?"

Raising an eyebrow, his thumb caressed the broom handle as he listened to her somewhat inattentively. "Cat's into Lou Lou like every other broad at Hogwarts? Ashton's a fuckin' prick who thinks his knob makes up for everythin' else. I dunno, her taste's shit."

Luna had liked to flirt and it didn’t matter who it was but James was an exception he definitely was a flirt. She gave him a bit of look right now.

“Well am I distracting you.” she said giving him a flirty smirk. “I wouldn’t say rocked my world, you got my attention.”

She nodded at how James was talking about them. “All girls go after them.”

"I must've gotten your attention bloody well then 'cause all I did was walk onto the pitch."

At least his charisma was shining quite well. Alayna saw through his facade a bit too easily. This time, Luna had him feeling confused like his brain was spinning. It was something he would have to ponder later.

"Y'know, the same could be said about me, but I never pick them..."

Licking his lips once more, James leaned against the wall, his auburn fringe getting in the way of his view. It just made the slight blur even blurrier.

Luna had liked certain guys and every girl liked her. She was talented and incredibly beautiful who just so happened to have a lot of money. She gave James a chuckle, he was something, and she didn't know what that feeling was in the slightest. "You definitely are interesting, and I have to you aren't high yet. Don't you like smoke marijuana or something."


"You are attractive and have a famous namesake. Everyone would kill to be with the heir to the Boy Who Lived, and unlike the rest, you at least have a respectful family. What does Ashton Harrington have?" she said with a comment. 

She loved herself, and wasn't stupid enough to fall for them.

Chuckling, James answered softly, "Er, it's mostly to help me sleep. 'Cause my dad's an auror and Al's a narc, they sorta act like I'm gonna do somethin' harder when I just wanna relax..."

He frowned, sighing as he pondered how people would rather assume the worst about anything he did. Don't they get tired of wanting him to be a wreck? James cocked his head slightly, licking his lips while he heard Luna compliment his family name. "Harrington has nothing, really. He just has his reputation."

Luna listened to James, and she knew people liked to smoke pot to sleep. It helped and sometimes you can't trust certain magical ingredients. "Albus doesn't come off as a nark. Although he does come off as a bit of a self-proclaimed golden boy." she commented. She knew a lot of girls had a crush on Al, since he was cute, but he was too full of perfectness.

"Ashton is a bit of a doochebag, and I will admit there are so many cuter guys." she said giving him a bit of a smile on her face. "I'm the hottest girl in Slytherin and the most talented, I can at least say I'm going to play professional Quidditch unlike the rest." she said with a lot of pride.

Quidditch was her life. "Your mom is a legend."

"I dunno why he thinks it's so important to follow a legacy to be bloody honest."

Pretty much all of Hogwarts knew James felt that way, but he tried to avoid bringing up that sentiment. He wanted his peers to focus on other topics. At least Luna didn't seem to judge him all that much over it the way most Slytherins would. He thought the house tribalism would've died with the war, but it wasn't to be the case.

Crossing his arms, James smirked, entertaining her declarations. "Really confident, are ya? Y'know, it doesn't take much to be better than Riddle, Malfoy, Avery, and all 'em broads."

His smirk softened upon hearing the adoration for his mum. She was his favorite parent; James couldn't imagine having anyone else as his mum.

"Yeah, my mum's bloody cool. I'm lucky she's my mum."

Luna knew that most of the girls in her house just planned on finding their husband. It's what pureblood society was all about keeping the blood pure. Her parents were purist, but the heir of the Goode family had a tainted blood, and wanted the family to improve.

She let out a chuckle, "I have to be those girls will do anything to make sure they are on top. The worst part is none of them have a plan, but to be a pureblood husband." she commented. It was heartbreaking, you can be a bitch and knowing your worth. "I want to be famous, but I also want to make my family look good, but there are others way you can do it."

Luna felt like James had a huge legacy to uphold, "Your mother is someone I look up too. She is a family woman and one of the Quidditch legend." she said.

"Your brother is probably going to carry the name on?" she asked, with curiosity.

"I think the magical world places too much importance upon surnames."

That especially included his own. If he had any other surname, if he had been born into any other family, nobody would care about who he was as much. The moment his dad became the Boy-Who-Lived, his fate among the public was sealed.

James didn't want his face to show just how deep he was in his mind at time; people would pry too much and ask if he was okay. Truthfully, how could he tell most people when it would be picked up by the rumor mill?

'I have no doubt that he will. He feels as if he has to pick up my 'slack'..."

Luna agreed that the wizarding placed a lot on surnames, but in their defense it had been years that bloodlines were in affect, and the purebloods claim their dying. "I agree, but in the pureblood world there defense is we are a dying race." she commented. It was disgusting, but she knew that she had to do what she had to do. "My family dates back to Salem, so they have their own society."

She was one of the first American wizarding families, until the 1980s when they went across the sea to start a life here in Britian. She sympathized with him, and she nodded, "Does your brother ever take a minute to step back and realize their is more to life." she commented.

Her mother had empathized that it was important to also love life. "Nothing wrong with being different, I don't tell a lot of people, but I am a bastard."

"I know my line goes back to the Peverells..."

James licked his lips, his eyes meeting hers as it occurred to him that his family was likely much older than Luna's.

It was strange to consider.

Not to mention, he had proof of it with the invisibility cloak he almost always had on him. That was one thing he couldn't let Al take. He didn't need it the way he did. This was one thing he genuinely earned by being born first.

"You're a bastard? Y'know, it ain't a big deal outside of posh pureblood pricks."

Luna had to admit she was kind of impressed that she was enjoying talking to James, because most people found him to be the most revolting guy in the world. He really wasn't and she nodded, it was definitely a weird feeling for Luna who didn't know to what of it.

"You know most of my house would kill me for giving you the time and day?" she laughed.

They had believed you went for the perfect pureblood boy like Ptolemy Rowle or Ashton Harrington. It was some kind of sick cult, but it was something you got used too. She preferred her friends in her other houses, and being surrounded by people who knew what they wanted.

When James said it wasn't a big deal, "It is, but it sucks not knowing your real dad." she sighed. It kind of hurt her to know how her father left. "My legal dad is great, but you know it's just crazy how kids can leave people and make the mother pay." she sighed.

Her mother had done a lot to get where she was at.

His face inched closer to Luna's while the idea of Slytherin killing her rung through his mind. "I see it as a challenge, do ya? I find it thrilling... The taboo of a lion and a snake interminglin'. Don't you find that exciting?" James greeted her with a smirk before backing off with a slight chuckle.

He wasn't going to kiss her just like that. It was rare when his wooing resulted in proper conversations. James had to be a tease. It needed to feel earned. After trying it with Alayna on the train, he wanted to exercise enough caution in case it went south.

Now that did have him feeling bad for her. He didn't know what was worse: becoming orphaned or simply never knowing a parent. He instinctively reached to give her a brief rub of the shoulder. "Do ya know if there's, er, any real way of knowin' ya real dad? He might not know you exist..."

Luna had to admit there was something about James that just was attractive. She smirked at him coming closer, and she had to laugh, "Well you know I'm expected to be with someone like Ashton." she teased him but he was definitely attractive right now. "You really trying to kiss a girl on a first date?" she laughed, she had to tease him right now.

His lips were close to her, and she knew someone was probably going to talk about this.

"I doubt he knows I exist, but that can be for another day." she said as she wondered if she should kiss him, because he was pretty attractive right now. "I am debating if we should kiss."

"Oh, is this a date now?"

He took this as permission to move closer to her. His broom fell onto the ground as if it became the least of his priorities.

"I know I want to kiss you..."

Shit. Even James knew he wasn't typically that smooth.

Luna didn't know what else to call it two people spending time together, and in this day and age she wasn't sure if dates even existed. "Well we are two people talking and bonding over something we love. Unless you'd want to spend the money on a date." she chuckled.

James was definitely turning her on.

She let out a bit of smirk and kissed him at his words. This was definitely going to the biggest gossip, and she was glad her sister Bonnie was not here right now.

"Er, do ya need to spend money for it to be a date?"

His facade-flirts normally didn't reach that point. He was only talking to Luna with some flirting inserted between, and there she was already declaring it a date. It was bold, very bold. And it was activating certain centers of his brain in a confusing way.

The confusion only grew when she kissed him. It wasn't bad... It didn't make him cringe or feel somewhat ill. Did it feel as explosive as the kisses he had with other blokes on the down low? Not exactly... Yet it felt pleasant enough that he found himself not minding if they were to kiss again.

"Er, you're not high maintenance like most Slytherin birds, right..?"

James exchanged a sheepish smile, briefly glancing away from her.

Luna hadn't exactly thought it was a date, but it was not something she was used too. She let out a bit of a smile on her face, "I'm joking, but it could be a date." she said with a smile. She'd consider, and she wanted to know if James was genuine. "Could you show me if your genuine."

She didn't think she was high maintence, her friends filled that void. "I tend to put Cat and Grayson above most people if that helps. I don't need a guy attached to me." she said with a smile. She liked her Quidditch and hated flirting over a guy.

Show her if he's genuine...

Now that broke his brain. How the fuck was he supposed to show that? Obviously not flirting with any other broad would have to be part of it, but what else? Normally his flirting didn't go this far. James had no idea what to do. He was deviating enough from his usual plans to receive less questions.

"Oh, good, you're not gonna take advantage of the Potter name then. Do ya know how many broads in this school would wanna use me as their personal bank?"

He smiled. He was going to have to devise how to prove he's genuine. He was in too deep now. Way too deep.

Luna had a lot of unexpected feelings coming from this and she wanted to know if when she woke up she'd end up keeping those feelings. She gave him a bit of a smile, and she had wondered if she should kiss him again, but right now she was positive there was glaring eyes.

"I come from a family richer than the Potters, no need for money." she said giving him a smile.

She had crossed her arms, and she thought of something. "What is your plan this weekend?"

Jeneva found her way into the quidditch pitch stands. She was hoping that her crush and 100% future boyfriend, Bruce, would be out there practicing on the pitch. Bellona was always soooo busy with Thius even though they weren't courting, so she was stuck on her own. Ugh!

Bruce wasn't there, but something even more interesting was occurring on the turf. Did she just catch Luna kissing Potter? Oh, this was going to be great! She sourced her own dirt for once! She needed to tell everyone she knew! Jeneva headed back into the castle so they wouldn't catch her peeping.

Luna pulled away for a few seconds, and spotted a familiar face. Someone who was far worst the Unholy Trinity, and she looked at James. "Meet me in the Room of Requirement tomorrow night." she said as she knew this was going to be interesting.

She began chasing after Jeneva, that girl and her little posse. 

"Come back here!"

Troy had been strolling around the castle doing his usual getting ready to read. He gotten a story on some Scottish myths that he wanted to read, and found himself on the Quidditch Pitch.

He didn't pay attention to what was going on, and was reading casually.

Then he heard someone yell, and saw Luna Goode running away from James. What did his cousin do, and he ran down the bleachers, "What happened?"
