Sunshine (open)

Lakelyn couldn’t wait to get back to the halls of Hogwarts! While she loved being home with her family and spending time out on the waves on her surfboard, she missed being back at school with all of her friends. And then there was quidditch! She missed that probably most of all. Okay, maybe not most of all but it was a close tie! She practically bounced into a random car, hoping to find a friendly face or two there.

Ryker looked up from his book as a blonde ball of energy entered the compartment. He chuckled and set down the guitar, "Extra sugar in your cereal this morning, Munroe?" He noticed she was always extremely happy and full of energy. He didn't get how she did it, but admired it in a way.

“Hey Ryker!” she said cheerfully as she plopped herself down on one of the empty seats without a care in the world. “I’m just happy to be heading back! I’ve missed everyone over the summer. And I got the position of quidditch captain this year!” she announced proudly. She couldn’t wait to start practicing! She missed the feeling of the wind in her hair.

Ryker smiled widely at her in congratulations at her news, "Wow that is great news. Congratulations Lakelyn." He had seen her on a broom enough times over the years since he transferred to know she was good. She had earned that title, "I'm sure your family are quite proud of you."

"Thanks! I really hope it will help me to go pro once I graduate." It was her dream to play pro quidditch after she was finished with school and she always played hard to try to make sure that she would be good enough. And maybe she had a bit of a competitive side as well. "Dad was thrilled." She said with a big smile. Her father had been the one to take them all to games when they were little and had helped to instill her love for quidditch so he had been happy to hear that she had gotten the position of captain. Of course, he was the type who was always proud of his children but Lakelyn had been happy to be able to make him proud when she had found out she would be captain that year. "How was your summer?" She asked, not wanting to keep the conversation all about her.

Ryker chuckled at her enthusiasm, it was quite refreshing to be around someone that was just such a ball of joy, "I am sure your talent will speak for itself. But it never hurts to have a boost, yeah?" He shrugged when asked about his summer, "It was the normal summer. My mother hosting events and afternoon teas for her social committees. So when I was not forced I to a tux and mingling with elderly couples by threat of my mother, I was hidden out in my room reading mostly." Ryker really wanted to do well this year in the hopes of becoming head boy next year. That would like great for his own future.

“Exactly! I’ll take any help I can get!” Lakelyn knew that she was a good player, she was an amazing seeker and she hoped that any scouts that came to watch their games would see that but it didn’t hurt to be able to show that she could lead a team as well. That always looked good to scouts, or so she believed. Lakelyn crinkled her nose as he described his summer. That didn’t sound like much fun at all! Sure, she was sure those elderly couples were lovely and all but that had to get super boring! “That sounds kind of boring… no offense to the little old couples you were entertaining.” Leave it to Lakelyn to worry about even the simplest of statements offending someone! But that was just how she was, she never wanted to say a negative word about anyone.

Ryker smiled at her as she got flustered over her fear of insulting him, "No offense taken. But I can only hear about Mrs. Nestbomb's new cat so many times. And I adore cats. But it's her sixth one." He put his book in his bag so not to accidentally forget it on the train as he was now in a conversation, "What else are you looking forward to this year? Graduating and such aside, I'm sure you'll miss this place." Ryker was a sixth year and was kind of dreading next year being his last, leaving Hogwarts once and for all.

“I’m sure hearing about her sixth cat is quite fascinating.” she teased a bit. “Let me guess, his name was something like Mr. Cuddles or something?” she joked, not meaning any disrespect but just trying to make him smile since that seemed to be what she was best at. “Ugh, don’t even remind me about graduating! I still can’t believe after this year I only have one more to go. Being out of school is actually a little terrifying!” she wasn’t lying either, she was a little scared about leaving the familiar behind after she was done with school even if she knew it was part of life. “I don’t really have any big plans other than quidditch and trying not to panic because this is my next to last year. What about you?”

"Quite close, Mr. Snuffles. Hideous thing, really. But I guess if he brings her joy, who am I to judge that?" He said with a laugh. He was enjoying conversing with Lakelyn, she was good company for the ride. When he heard her say she was scared to leave as well, he felt less embarrassed about his own fears, "I feel the same way. I mean, I have a plan of course but it's still scary. Graduate from here, attend and graduate from university, become a healer or a professor. I haven't truly decided which one yet."

Lakelyn couldn’t help but laugh. “I’m sure he isn’t that bad!” the poor cat. “I’m sure he is lovely company for Mrs. Nestbomb. she said with a little smile as she pulled her legs up to sit cross-legged on the seat without a care in the world. “My only plan is to play quidditch. If that falls through, I have no idea what I’ll do.” she didn’t really have a backup plan. She just had to hope it all worked out like she wanted it to or she would be completely screwed.

"He's a big ball of grey matted fur and his meow sounds like a toads croak." He said, laughing as he did so. "but yes. I suppose he is a good listener." Ryker frowned a bit as she said all her eggs were in the quidditch basket, "you really should consider having a backup plan. You never know what's going to happen, you could get injured in a game, and then your career would be over. It's always good to have a backup."

Lakelyn awwed as he told her the state of the poor cat in question. "He just needs a little brushing and I'm sure he'd be very handsome." She said with a laugh, still trying to see the best in everyone and everything as was normal for her. "I bet he is the best listener." She nodded, she had never had a pet of her own but she was sure that they were great to have around when someone was lonely. She sighed. "I know. Mum is always telling me that I need a backup plan but I just have never been able to see myself doing anything other than playing quidditch. I don't know what else I would be good at." She said, actually frowning just a little bit.

"I see you are an animal lover. Or is that just your over all joy?" Ryker teased with a smile. He himself didn't have a pet yet, but he thought the idea of a cat might be nice. A little ball of fur to have on his lap as he read in the nook of his room would be a nice change. Someone to keep him company. He pondered for a moment before giving a suggestion, "You could always go for recruitment if anything happens. Be like a talent scout for future quidditch players. Still be in the scene of it all."

“I do like cats, I’ve never actually had one of my own but some of my housemates have them, of course…” that was much different than having one of her own but she always worried that if she were to get a pet that it wouldn’t get enough attention during the summers when she was at the beach from the moment she woke up until after dark most days. Lakelyn thought about his suggestion for a moment. “That’s not a bad idea… or maybe I could go to university and study to become a flying professor?” she was actually thinking of some different possibilities, even if her heart was still set on playing quidditch.

"I feel cats are a very Hufflepuff pet. One would suit you well." He could picture lakelyn with a tiny ball of golden or orange fur. Something with a lot of energy, like her. "Plus they are very independent creatures. They don't need constant attention like other pets." Ryker felt a bit of pride when she commented on his idea for her future, it made his inner Ravenclaw happy, " "That's a great idea too. Teaching the young ones to fly can be very rewarding in its own way."

"I have thought about having a cat before but I don't spend much time at home in the summer so I always worry that it might get lonely." Lakelyn would love to have a kitten but she wouldn't because she worried that she wouldn't be the best owner with spending all of her time away from home. It would be nice to have a kitten to play with or spend time with while she was studying at school and such though. She truly did think that his idea was a good one and she was happy to have some more options to think about. "I think either one could be fun if quidditch falls through... but hopefully it won't!" She said cheerfully.

"That's understandable. Everyone thinks cats are independent creatures but they actually get quite lonesome." He smiled as he spoke and nodded in agreement with her; he admired her positivity and determined nature. "You really are something else, huh? So full of positivity. It almost overflows out of you. In a good way of course!" He was speaking nonsense now. What was he even saying? God, he was so lame.

Lakelyn nodded, she never believed that cats liked to spend their time alone! Who would want to? Not her! ”if only there were cats that would like surfing then I would have the perfect pet!” she said with a little laugh. She knew cats didn’t generally like water and it would probably be too dangerous anyway but it was an amusing image to think about a cat standing on a surfboard and riding the waves. She smiled brilliantly at him. ”my siblings like to say it’s annoying sometimes but I just always try to see the positives where I can.” she explained, blushing a little at what she took as a compliment.
