Working 9 to 5

The stack of paperwork never seemed to shrink. Not that it bothered Lucas much, as running any sort of business venture was something he'd been taught since birth. Today was just one of those days that the pile seemed more inclined toward growth. He eyed the mountain for a moment as he checked which meetings he had coming up. A meeting with one of his employees. It wasn't something he was overly fond of, but it helped to keep things running smoothly. Besides, there were a few upcoming projects that he figured Amaryllis might be suited for. Perhaps they could go over those. He briefly checked his watch. Indeed, She was due to arrive soon.

Amaryllis had fought tooth and nail to finally secure a position as an unspeakable. It had been difficult to get people to take her seriously for the position but with hard work and dedication she had been able to climb her way up the ladder. And she didn't plan to ruin that upward momentum now. She had a meeting with her boss and she made sure to make it to his office a few minutes early. Once there, she lifted her hand to knock on the door. Meetings like this always gave her butterflies, worrying that she was somehow in trouble for something even though that had not been the case yet. Still, she was a bit nervous as she waited for a reply at the other side of the door even as she hid the nerves very well.

While Lucas was the head of the Department he didn't find it a requirement to always know everything about all his employees. As long as they were able to do their jobs he wasn't a difficult boss, or at least he'd like to think so. He knew he was very strict and picky but well, he fully believed that his department ought to have certain standards that he expected all his employees to live up to if they wanted to advance in their careers.

Then came the much expected knock on the door and with a wave of his hand the door opened. "Come on in, Ms Macmillan." He said as he stood up and motioned to the empty chair opposite his desk. He appreciated her punctuality a lot. At the very least that would reflect positively on his judgement on if he could entrust her with some of the most sensitive projects. Though perhaps she'd need some additional training, though that could easily be discussed in todays meeting. He did so enjoy it when these chats were useful.

Amaryllis liked to think that she was doing a good job where her career was concerned. She always put in the time that was needed, even if it meant working later than others or even coming in on her days off. She was determined to make something of herself. Sure, her social life suffered for it and she couldn't remember the last time she had had a date... But there would be time for that once she was able to fully succeed in her career.

Almost as soon as she had knocked, the door swung open and she smiled a bit as her boss invited her inside and gestured to the empty chair. She crossed the room, making sure to keep her head high, shoulders straight, not showing any nerves that she might feel. She liked making a positive impression even if it wasn't her first impression. "I hope all is going well, sir?" She said, asking both professionally and just as a bit of an ice breaker to keep her from sitting there looking like a startled child facing a stern professor or something along those lines.
