First topic message reminder :

The moment had finally come: for the first time since the dance, outside of that brief accidental crystal convo, James was going to talk to Lien. Although those few messages showed no hint or sign of malice or hatred, a part of him could feel every possible nerve hitting him. He was going to find out just how normal their friendship would continue to be; the very last thing he wanted was to return to all of those years of hatred. He couldn't bear to think not having Lien in his life in some form. He had made a stop to the gym to change back into his casual clothing before making his way to the library. Why attend the afterparty when he had a more important matter to deal with?

James, being James, placed his bag on top of a table and sat beside it. Not like there was anybody around to tell him off about it. His heart raced as he waited for Lien to arrive at any moment.

He chuckled a little. There was something quite satisfying about seeing him all worked up sometimes.

"That was English."

Just to rub salt in the wounds.

Decided that he should no longer tease him with what he next said, Lien smiled weakly at him. "You've just had the school find out about your sexuality and your unborn child. I think you could survive them finding out this." It was meant to be reassuring - they both knew how word travelled in this place. There was no stopping it sometimes. "Here." He summoned a snake using the Serpensortia spell. "Perhaps you could try talking to the snake instead."

He observed closely.

"Fuck, I shoulda snorted some pixie dust before comin' in 'ere," James joked. "Eh, it always sounded like English to me, so I ne'er thought there was anythin' unusual goin' on."

Wait. If that snake he talked to in the bathroom was Mackenzie's, did that mean the Riddles were aware of his ability? He'd have to ask Professor Riddle about it when they meet.

"True... I only mentioned the kid thing 'cause they were pissin' me off, and I wanted to have a say for once. Pissed Evelyn off, but it'll hopefully work out..." A gay baby daddy. It was like an oxymoron. His life felt like an oxymoron.

James observed the snake as it materialized. He was going straight to the point: "D'ye know how to access this book?"

"In the three seconds that I have been in existence, how would I suddenly know how to open a book?"

Lien stared in fascination as James's mouth seemed to move with a mind of its own. It was as if James was possessed or something. Whatever he said seemed to have worked, because the latch of the book had opened. Lien took that as a sign for James to pick it up freely.

"You've been very brave, you know. I wouldn't have been able to cope with everything you have."

Giving James a chagrined smile, he resumed his seat again. The snake can curled its way up the table and appeared on top of it. Lien jumped in surprise.

He chuckled at the snake relieved that it had a sense of humor; he genuinely thought snake comedians could be a thing if more wizards spoke parseltongue.

James blinked at the book before flipping the cover open. "Huh, didn't think it'd be that simple..." He was so going to have to bring this up to Professor Riddle.

"Guess 'at's why I'm in Gryffindor. Sorta thought it was 'cause I lacked ambition and laze 'round a lot!"

James motioned for the snake to be on his side of the table. He needed someone a bit more fluent. Was fluency a thing with parseltongue?

He began flipping through the pages waiting for something to jump out at him.

"I guess so," he said, smiling happily. "Oh - and well done, by the way. In the match."

Lien chose another book to read. This time it was about the three unforgivable curses, and there were a lot of extremely graphic photographs in there. The way that they moved was so slight it was almost eerie: perhaps the magic that made the photographs move had worn off somewhat since the book was written.

He looked at the snake staying around James. At least he didn't have to worry about being bitten while he was around.

"Atticus and Macmillan had dragged me there, but I'm glad that they did."

"Thanks," he replied smiling back as he finally landed on a page within the book waiting for the writing to become clearer to him. How long had this book been sitting on the shelves? James blew on it to find out if there was some dust or whatever making it harder to read; the librarian should probably learn to dust more.

James stroked the snake with his pinky finger as he squinted at the writing. "Now I gotta learn parselcursive? Fuck sake!" Then he squinted again. "Think I can make out somethin'..."

He was going to have to ask one of the Riddles for help he felt.

"Atticus told me he was gonna make sure ye went."

Lien chuckled at parselcursive. James was quite witty, actually.

At the mention of Atticus, Lien looked up from his book. That was fairly unexpected: he'd thought in the time that nobody had really seen him, the only people he was in contact with was Louis Weasley, as he said about using the Head Boy dormitory. Then again, perhaps it made a little sense. Atticus could understand a little of James's struggles.

"I didn't know you'd been talking to him."

Lien realised that he liked the idea of James asking about him though.

"I suppose he kept it quiet because of Alayna."

"Er yeah, didn't intend to, but it just sorta happened. I was in the kitchens to get some grub, and he was 'ere. He was tryin' to make sure that I actually ate."

And that ended up leading to something else as they were both bored and wanted to have fun. Not like he'd say no to some of the most fun, engaging pleasure he's had.

James nodded as the snake began wrapping itself around one of his arms. "Yeah 'cause she'd bitch 'bout it like, I dunno, like her hair got shaved off or somethin'. Any bloody thing could piss her off." Then he began to laugh uncontrollably thinking about the encounters he and Atticus were having.

"Lil does she know I've been gettin' revenge in a way she'll never forget..."

He watched him laughing and smiled. It was good to see that. He didn't think much of the reason: that it was at the expense of Alayna's humiliation. If he had it his way, she would be humiliated every day. She deserved it.

"And which way is that?" he asked, engaged with anticipation. What was he going to say?
