ruins of rain (james)

Niall was getting really annoyed at having to stay at the hospital. He felt, on the whole, a lot better. Just occasionally when walking around he got a bit dizzy and felt as though his knees were buckling. That wasn't that bad, surely. He got over it in a few seconds anyway. The cruciatus curse had been performed multiple times on him, sure, but he'd got off pretty well considering.

He wasn't supposed to be out of bed. He wasn't supposed to be anywhere near where they were holding James, but he snuck in to see him. He had his own room on spell damage. Pretty much everyone knew about it.

"How ye doin'?" He asked, very casually, as though James had merely suffered a Quidditch injury.

James had been lying around in his bed counting the tiles on the ceiling; he found it very unnerving how the only person he's seen that weren't the healers was his aunt and godmother. It felt lonely, especially as it wasn't necessarily by choice. Although it seemed as if the employees were trying to hide various details from him, James was aware of what had happened regarding his family and he loathed it. He couldn't believe he let himself get duped so easily. Why did he always have to make such stupid, rash decisions? Why did he just have to get high that Hogsmeade weekend? Why did he have to hurt Niall?

Thinking of the devil...

"I thought you weren't allowed in here?"

Currently, his wrists were restrained so he couldn't try to erase the scarred dark mark off of his skin. He felt trapped.

It was very weird seeing him strapped down like that. He looked pale, gaunt and terrified at everything around him. Niall just sort of blankly looked at him. How did he feel, really? He knew that he had been under the imperius curse when hurting him, but it still felt very awkward to be in the same vicinity as him. Maybe he should have just gone to the café instead...

"Aye... that's right."

But, apparently, he was here anyway. Niall looked at his forearm. Then back to his eyes.

"It weren't ye fault," He said, as that's what he was supposed to say. "Why do they have ye strapped down?"

The air had felt tense, and the circumstances of why they're both in St. Mungo's didn't help.

"They're afraid I'd tear my skin off."

James, bless his heart, was still blunt as he usually was. However, he didn't really have it in him to banter or tease like he usually did. He just wanted to get out. He wanted the media parade to end.

"I'm just glad they aren't allowing the press around..."

This felt awkward. He didn't feel remotely in his element.

"Oh, aye, makes sense."

He took a seat next to his bed, making a note that it was quite far away from his bed. Seeing the binds was beginning to make him feel a little sick. James was pretty fucked up over this. He began to feel slightly dizzy again.

"So. Ye remember doin' some stuff," He said, "Remember everythin', or just that?"

"Everything. It's in a bit of a haze though, but I remember everything."

Why couldn't his brain have blocked it out like most people? It would make it a lot easier for him to try and get out of St. Mungo's.

"I'm why Aunt Fleur is dead. I don't even know how my family still wants to associate with me."

James was beginning to tear up. He was blaming himself for everything.

"I should've gotten us to safety. I should've made sure Al didn't go anywhere... Instead, I was a selfish idiot who got high!"
